DTC autotrans. Can anyone tell me what this is?

Post by Shoppinit » Tue Mar 10, 2009 8:45 pm

Hi,

Not strictly en S/RS problem, but a friend's having a problem with his 'box. Keeps going into limp home mode. So I had a look with the vagcom and it's doing strange things. First the code:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Address 02: Auto Trans Labels: 01J-927-156.lbl
Part No SW: 8E0 910 155 C HW: 01J 927 156 HH
Component: V30 01J 1.9l PD RdW 3120
Revision: 00000004 Serial number: 00000000542476
Coding: 0000001
Shop #: WSC 04926 001 00001

1 Fault Found:
17090 - Transmission Range Sensor (F125): Implausible Signal
P0706 - 000 - -
Freeze Frame:
RPM: 3680 /min
RPM: 2304 /min
RPM: 330 /min
(no units): 30.0
Torque: 72.0 Nm
Temperature: 45.0C
T.B. Angle: 11.2
Bin. Bits: 0001 0 0

It does this when you move out of park into neutral. Also it doesn't seem to know whether you're in D or S. No tiptro functions work at all.

Brake switch reading OK.

The measuring blocks showed: P - PZ - Er - S (what's PZ? Reverse)

I can reset the DTC in anything other than N. As soon as I move the selector to N, the DTC comes back?

Any ideas?

Looks like he needs a new F125 - fairly common fault, can be a pain to get to depending on the car.

Example of work needed on an A8 here: http://www.audipages.com/Tech_Articles/ ... place.html

Oops. Since I vagcom'd his car, the ABS warning light is on all the time. I hope I haven't screwed up his car. Any ideas?

Also, when I was scanning his car, the dash went into German. Easy enough to put back into the right language, but seems odd that it would do this?

All I can suggest is doing a full fault scan and seeing what the other controllers are logging.

Thanks Grant. I left his car with no DTCs other than the autotrans and this:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Address 56: Radio Labels: 8E0-035-1xx-56.lbl
Part No: 8E0 035 195 M
Component: symphony II NP2 0410
Coding: 01217
Shop #: WSC 03870

2 Faults Found:
00466 - Control Module for Steering Column Electronics (J527)
49-00 - No Communications
00857 - CD Changer Unit (R41)
49-00 - No Communications

which I'm guessing isn't important (since mine give the same fault and works fine).

I'll try resetting the ABS dtc again and see what happens.

That's interesting - the ABS warning light could be on because the ESP steering wheel sensor needs resetting. That can happen when the SCSM loses power, which might also explain the 00466 fault on the Symphony II.

I think the Symphony II is incorrectly coded for an external CD changer, which would explain the 00857 fault.

It might be because we disconnected the battery at once point... I'm going to have to get his car back and see what the DTCs are. This is why you don't do favours ;)

How do I go about resetting the ESP / SCSM?

Would following this procedure help? :

Thanks Dave and Grant. I'll have a go at it this afternoon and let you know.

I'm trying to figure out where the F125 might be on this box, but for the A4 AVF engine on FWD, there only seems to be the multitronic boxes available. In which case, why would he have tiptro? Weird...

Does anyone know what this box is: 01J 927 156 HH

ABS warning light went away on its own.

I've got to stop using the vagcom on other peoples' cars. It's obviously not a tool for the uninitiated.

I had initially done an autoscan and cleared the faults - nothing else. Other than the autobox fault and the symphony fault there were no recorded faults initially.

Today, a couple of days later, I do another autoscan to find out why the ABS light had come on, and now I've got loads of DTCs that don't make any sense to me:

Any idea what's going on?

Also the comfort closure with keyfob stopped working. Changing the coding did nothing for this. This was actually resolved by a passer-by, unbelievably. He said "on Renaults you have to hold all the UP buttons on for a while after you disconnect the battery". Guess what, works on Audis too!

That works on many cars - after disconnecting the battery the one-shot window system needs resetting.

Try resetting all the faults - that should get rid of the intermittent ones that were caused by disconnecting the battery, and leave you with only the "real" faults.

Yes, you're right. Except for one that wasn't there bfore and refuses to go away:

Doesn't seem to affect anything though. Just annoying that it wasn't there before and after vagcom it is...

Sounds like that module has been changed at sometime and the replacement is a second hand one?
