SatNav CD disaster

Post by satnavdisaster » Tue Mar 10, 2009 11:34 pm

My brother used his new Q7 satnav cd in my A6 AllRoad the other day and now my satnav wont work with my old cd. Audi advise that as the newer Q7 disc has been used it auto deletes the memory on the system and will no longer recognise the old CD. They said it will cost 215 pounds to upgrade to the newer cd. This is crazy I already have the hardware...215 for a cd !!!! Any ideas pls .... many thx.

What model is the Allroad (C5 or C6)? Are you talking about the RNS-E (widescreen) or RNS-D?

I know it is possible to downgrade the RNS-E using VCDS and an old DVD, not sure about the RNS-D (CD based system).

Have a look here http://audiforum.us/navigation-units/ for more info, do a search for Downgrade.

Just downgrade using instructions on the site I mentioned, or buy a newer (2008) DVD off eBay.

I've never heard such rubbish, the Q7 uses MMI disks and the A6 has an RNS-E which uses RNS-E disks, inserting an MMI disk into an RNS-E has no affect whatsoever, it should just say it's teh wrong CD. Many people have bought MMI disks by mistake and put them into RNS-E's with no problem whatsoever. The RNS-E will do nothing with it.

I suggest that some physical damage has been done which is why you are now having issues.

craigyb - I can assure you it has happenned as I put the newer disc into my SatNav at Audi last week and it works fine however when you try and reinsert the older version (both my copy and the one provided by Audi) the system does not work. By using a newer version the computer auto deletes all old data and cannot be reloaded to configure old set-up. Bizarre

I have to say B0LL0X, there is no way a disk from an MMI system would update the RNS-E.

I did as Craigyb said and accidentally bought an MMI disc. The RNSE did sod all with it. Old CD back in and away I went. Could it be that the disc for some reason went into upgrade mode and now has itself all buggered..?

I am sure you can downgrade the software through VAG-Com, only to the most recent version though....I may be wrong.
