Just had to top up with 1.5 litres of oil after around 8k
is this normal ?

I think the V8's use a bit of oil, I've had to top mine up the odd time too. When I got it serviced I bought 2 gallons so I had some of the same oil left over to top it up with..
2000 Goodwood Green S6 4.2 V8 340bhp.
