RS2 For Sale

Post by DickyC » Sun Feb 15, 2009 5:11 pm

Tis a sad day :(

My pride and joy is up for sale. The RHD Volcano Black 1995 RS2 (that rejoices in the name of The Undertaker Car after the third owner, an undertaker, who debadged it in case it was required for Funeral duty) is going to have to go.

It is a fairly standard, 144,000 mile, car; well used, well maintained and in very nice condition. My trials, tribulations and triumphs with it are documented on RS246 and it will soon be for sale on Pistonheads where, coincidentally, I was recently asked to put the car's detailed history. The car has FASH and lots of receipts and records from Audi and Audi specialists.

Discussions start at £12,000. I'm not in a desperate hurry to sell it and will gladly discuss the pros and cons of the price versus some spare parts, the number plate and the couple for things I would prefer to have done to it before it goes.

The non-standard bits:
The Recaro logo on the front seats is missing following the seat centres being reupholstered.
The diverter valve was replaced with one for the S3 which is better - allegedly - but doesn't make that satisfying bang. Other than that, the car is standard, apart, of course, from the tyres which are Pirelli P-Zero Rosso 225s, not the original and now unobtainable SP8000s.

The boasts:
The previous owner told me it had never had a ding bad enough to split the paint. Subsequently, a heathen clipped the rear bumper in a car park, but the bumpers are at least non-ferrous.
Instead of an RAC check I contacted the previous owner's Audi garage, Listers in Coventry, who described it as, "A good honest car."
The mechanic in my local Audi dealer in Newbury told me, "It's a gem."

What else:
Half leather and original Sony 10 CD player and all the regular good stuff like air con, electric windows, electric sunroof, electrically adjustable seats plus a TrakBak. It has been my day to day car for 18 months and is ready to go and go very quickly.

PM me if you're interested.

Thanks, Tom.

Well, y'know, they're slow sellers, so I may still be able to have a Jolly Boys' Outing or two. I've promised to take the Mini to Goodwood on 1st March for "Mini Mayhem" but there's the South Coast Run later in the month so you never know.

It's now on Pistonheads:

Sad but we all move on. Except scillyisles :) . IMHO despite the 'credit crunch' you should hold out for the £12K. You will get a lot of low offers but this is one of 180 & they will never make anything like this again.
Now I am off to book the car in for a 1k service.

Thanks Alastair, message received and understood!

Truth is, I was torn between keeping the RS2 or settling an unexpectedly humungous bill from HMRC. I have to assume HMG are going to win eventually, but I think I can fend them off long enough to get the full £12,000 for the car.

The thing I find I can't discuss with the Countess, in amongst all this, is how the car is going in for a few bits and pieces at ACS in Andover before I sell it. I'll be sleeping with the dogs again if she finds out. :D

Here don't be cheeky  - the reason I still have the RS2 is simple - there are very few cars that have the same character and as the car was built specially for me and is probably unique - I see little point in selling it.

I am also fortunate enough to have many other cars in my fleet so can keep the RS2 as a special occasion car. In fact I seem to end up collecting limited edition cars - one of my other cars is a BMW M3 CSL.

Dicky as i posted up on `the other forum` you will regret it if she goes... when i sold my black RS2 within a couple of weeks i knew id have to have another one and it took a while and some proper £ to find the `right` one. Slightly o/t i met up at the weekend with a laser red RS2 which was nice (guess who forgot his camera again )

Another reason for not selling it is I'll be missing all the banter :(

So, new plan: negotiate with HMRC.

HM Revenue & Customs
Dear Sirs,
The lads on RS246 say I shouldn't sell the car to settle your ludicrous demands.
When I win the lottery or get a hugely over paid job, I'll come back to you.
Love,
Dicky

Because I forgot to say don't, a clown rang up yesterday to tell me he was from something-or-other autos and they were licensed credit brokers and he could only just hold back the clamouring hoards of buyers in my area desperate to buy an RS2, if only I'd give him loads of money.

It made me want to float a few bogus ads just so I could hear him say he had loads of buyers in my area for a Stutz Bearcat or a Frazer Nash Continental.

It's just back from the bodyshop for the scraped bumper and is going to ACS for a new auxillary radiator and cam cover gasket :D plus the next round of chase the suspension bush

And still only £12,000.

I wish I had the spare cash but the business needs it and the "RS4 keeps me poor".
Crazy because a year ago I couldn'/t find a good one thats why I bought the 4.
Hmm I'll see what HMRC do to me over the next few days you may get a call.

Thanks, Trevithick.

It went into ACS for a "last couple of bits" last Thursday and it's still there. In addition to the radiator, gasket and bushes, they fitted my spare front discs. Someone is going to get a fabulous, well sorted car.
