Yes it's bizarre. Actually costing less to insure than my previous car - a 220bhp A4 cabriolet. I was suspicious too but got original quote using the reg number (ie should be correct info from DVLA computer), and when the docs arrived they said "Audi A4 2.7 RS4 Quattro". So seems OK to me.

Just count myself lucky I guess. And over the past 15 claim-free years (touch wood), I still reckon the insurers have done pretty well out of me...

Oh yeah, should have said - I got 10% discount for buying online, plus another 10% for having house insurance with them.

Cheers, viffer.

At 25 on RS4:

3 Years Nonprotected NCD
3 points
Business Use with Direct Line
SW19 London with Drive and Garage
20k+ Mileage
Guaranteed Hire Car

£1800 - owch

At 26 on RS6:

4 Years Nonprotected NCD
3 points (new 3 points, old ones off....42 in 30 gutted)
Business Use with Direct Line
SW19 London with Drive and Garage
20k+ Mileage
Guaranteed Hire Car

£1500 - getting better I thought.

It would seem that Direct Line therefore are up for a deal, and pay for loyal customers. Also because RS6 is brand new - if it gets stolen or written off in year 1 they replace it with a brand new, exact spec, car - no quibbles (ahem...!) If it's true that sounded quite good! The only downside to the new car deal is that you have to first reg owner. So if it was ex demo, but only 2 months, you get market value which is a bit off!

I'm not convinced that they do use the DVLA information. I suspect that it is data which is shared between the insurance companies. When I insured my A6 2.7T, I had problems persuading NU Direct which engine it had and they appeared to insure it as a 2.8. The V5 very clearly had the capacity as 2671, but NU had it down as a 'T', with 2771 (until I rang to get it corrected - even then they still charged the premium for the 2.8!). Subsequent quotes from other insurers also came thtough for a 2.8!I wonder how the new owner is getting on with it?

Admiral want £850 for me. 29 full NCB, clean as a whistle, parked on the road in a Romford, Essex (!) postcode.
Mods acceptable for nominal increase, apart from chipping which can add about another 50% and that's only upto 20% increase.

Cheers

OK then, Greenlight 01277 263 030

Mod friendly, they know the Audi tuners and the mods available.

A proper broker with knowledgeable staff who can answer questions immediately (like how much extra for XXX brakes etc)

Can provide trackday cover on top for £ 65/day with double the standard excess.

Very happy with them, certainly recommended.

Just rang Greenlight great people as David implied
BUT if you car is worth more than £30K forget it there underwriters will not consider it
So that rules out RS4s pretty much for the moment

further to my "wheel mods" post.

i rang my insurer, which is direct line, for a quote on adding different wheels.

at the moment,i pay £477 for myself and my wife.full protected no claims,no points,no convictions etc on a 99 a3 quattro sports. they wanted an extra £110 to take me up to october,so thats about £130 per year extra for wheels up to £1000,they ONLY go on value, not size or oe wheels.

i then rang tesco,i heard they were good on mods, but they were about the same price.

i then rang frizzel,i told them my renewal was up in october, she was puzzled, why i wanted a quote now.i explained,i was thinking about wheel mods, she said "we don't bother" or words to that effect,i asked what she meant,so said,as long as the engine was NOT modified, they don't charge extra for wheels, bodywork, anything that does not improve the power...i know a lot of you guys have chips etc..but it's good news for some....the quote was about £2.30 extra per year for the vehicle...but they also do a free green card, something tesco and direct line charge extra £34,for a 21 day holiday in europe.

so i think i will be changing soon.

i am a member of the CSMA,but this should not make any difference.

Apologies if it's a little different but i can't believe some of the great deals some of you lot get. When i renew my insurance on my RS2 i have to phone around for feckin days....the cheapest igot in my first year was £1180, me being 29, full no- claims and a value of £13-15k.This year age 30,i managed £830, but i think thats a limited mileage....I did try (plug) Carole Nash ( who were excellent on my Porsche )and they claimed when it was 10 years old they will insure it as a classic I might be a bit under informed here but, obviously with RS2's and RS4's being group 20, would the value of the car not make a reasonable difference, as i say mine being insured for circa £13-15k where as RS4's must be coming in at £30-35-40k...Just my thoughts....
