TURBO UPGRADES, HYBRIDS OR RS6 TURBO?

Post by gipsy73 » Thu Feb 21, 2008 4:12 pm

Hi all,
I am quite new to this forum and I tried to search over but without any luck.
I have a B5 RS4 and I would like to put a couple of RS6 turbo.
I have some questions like:

Is the RS4 coming with K04 turbos?
What is the difference between the RS4 turbo and the hybrids?
Diffrence between RS4, hybrids and RS6 turbo?
Which are the modification to install the RS6 turbo or the hybrids?
Which power can I achieve with hybrids or RS6 turbo?

I have an MTM exhaust, but I don't know if I also have kats or exhaust manifold as well.

TURBO MAGIC

well, you obviously didnt do your HW becuase there is plenty of info out there.

Is the RS4 coming with K04 turbos?
-YES, KO4's come on an RS4.

What is the difference between the RS4 turbo and the hybrids?
-RS4 and hybrids are not the same. KO4 hybrids are a KO4 turbo that is modified. either the compressor side, the turbine side, or both.

ie- KO4 turbo w 997 compressor wheel. this is just a plain KO4, but ported to a larger size, in order to accept the larger compressor wheel from a Porsche 997 turbo. the larger wheel will flow more air, therefore, it is safe to assume more HP output, especially upstairs, where the KO4 powerband has been known to run out of steam.

Difference between RS4, hybrids and RS6 turbo?
-3 similar but different turbos. the KO4 is the smallest. a hybrid depends upon what you have done to it. the RS6 is a little bigger than the KO4. the comp wheel, compressor housing, and most importantly the exhaust side.

ie- KO4's are good for ~20lbs per minute. that's about ~200whp each, therefore 400-500 hp, all depending on setup and tuning.

hybrids should give you more. lets say ~20-25lbs per minute, therefore similar to KO4s, but more upstairs. the general concesus is that you will never be able to spool up faster than an untouched KO4. so though you will benefit from the hybrid in power, you wont be quicker in spoolup than a KO4.

lastly, the RS6... good for 2bar. that's 28lbs per minute. therefore, ~560 whp on pump gas. that's US93 oct. again, that is all encumbent upon a well running car and a tune.

Which are the modification to install the RS6 turbo or the hybrids?
-RS6's need to be chopped up a little in order to make it fit like a KO4 to stock locations. the compressor housing need to be turned, and the passenger side wastegate have to be relocated. its not very hard, but should be done by someone who has experience w it. as i would never want my turbos being worked on by a novice.

KO4 Hybrids should be same as KO4s.

Which power can I achieve with hybrids or RS6 turbo?
-i alreday mentioned power outputs above. but a basic range of the turbo's output.

KO4- 380-480
KO4/Brid- 430-500+
RS6- 480-600

those are general numbers, but that is what has already been achieved.

pls PM me for more info. i actually have KO4 and RS6 turbos for sale.

-Eugene

Stick to plain old K04's. Ultra reliable and your car will stay on the road where it's meant to be!!

I don't know anyone that has upgraded and hasn't had trouble in some shape or form...
