What Tyres ?
I'm looking to replace the tyres on the RS2. There are SP8000's on the rear and SP9000's on the front.
From what I can gather, none of the above are available any more.
Can anyone suggest a suitable replacement ?

RE: What Tyres ?
continental sport contact 3, or goodyear F1 @ 225/45/17 if you want something expensive
Falken 452 if you want something mid level but good quality.
Dont use 245 tyre of any sort as the Dunlops where the only tyres that were made with reinforced sides for such a thinck tyre on a thin 7.5inch rim.Anything else will just damage the tyre prematurelly and possibly cause an accident.

Rims on RS2 are 7 inch. No modern day 245/40ZR17 tyres are recommended for fitment on a 7inch rim and that includes the SP9000 that you are running on the front. If you check carefully on the inside wall of your front tyres you might find that they are starting to fail and/or touch the suspension components.
Tyre size to fit on OEM rims is 225/45ZR17.
Tyres that seem to work well with the RS2 are
Pirelli Nero in 94Y (XL) rating - I have these on at the mo but due a change soon
Goodyear F1 Assym also in XL rating - not tried but alaistairg recommends
Michelin PS2 - my spare is this tyre - slightly lower load rating. others seem to have used and recommend
Not tried Continental Contact Sport 3 on RS2 but have tried Contact Sport 1 and 2 on other cars and found cold/wet weather grip poor

Audi RS2 - the original
Pirelli Rosso 225/45ZR17
Excellent for everything except low speed tight turns on concrete; such as multi storey car parks.
Well done for keeping the SP8000s going so long. Yours are probably the last ones!

I went for the Goodyear F1 Assymetrics after a good test report in Evo magazine. They have strong side walls and distribute the weight evenly across the tyre. (errr, apparently! Google them!).
I have nothing to compare them to as when I bought the car it had the wrong size tyres on. But so far they are working well for me in dry and weight and wear rate is looking good.
It's also worth shopping around a bit once you've made your decision as prices for tyres varies enormously!
Bathwick Tyres, Andover were brilliant - please mention 'RS2 Simon' if you go to them!

Re: What Tyres ?
Assuming you can't source a set of SP8000s and settle on the 225s we talk about, I run mine at 38psi and have good even wear.steverrquattro wrote:I'm looking to replace the tyres on the RS2. There are SP8000's on the rear and SP9000's on the front.
