Hi,
After having my S6 for under 3 months and with only 81k on the clock I noticed that the gearbox would give the odd judder when coming off a roundabout in 3rd gear. The car was going in for an oil change so I though I would get the gearbox oil and filter done at the same time. Parts cost about £146 from Audi. Apparently you only use the proper Audi oil at £10 a litre. Anyway I got this done and all seemed good for a week afterwords, gear changes all smooth and nice, then the judder started again. I re-checked the oil level a few times to make sure it was right. But the juddering got worse. After some research on Audiworld I found out that the 5HP-24A auto box in the S6 is very prone to failure. So to cut a long story short, the car is now in for a gearbox rebuild at a cost of £1600 + vat. Not good at all….. There is lots of info on www.audipages.com about the gearbox. Also it is the clutch hub or basket that has ripped on mine and therefore needs to be completely rebuilt. Has anyone else had any problems with their gearboxes? Also vag-com shows no gearbox codes and no dash lights etc… Just thought I would share my horror story.

Gulp, good luck with the rebuild, mine has just hit 81k no judder to speak of (finding the nearest big bit of wood to touch). On the 80k service forgot to get the garage to change the gearbox oil so will get that done along with the mot.
Mine is currently in for a coolant leak somewhere on the drivers side, no news yet from the garage.

Not sure if I was unlucky or not. Although if you search on audiworld etc for the 5HP24A which came in the S6, A8, RS6 etc then you will see lots of failures.johny1980 wrote:wasnt aware the box was weak on the s6 ?
the rs6 maybe ?
your maybe just unlucky
I got the car back on Friday night and it seems to be a good job and all is working well.
