Is Audi the only place to get a ltr of oil for topping up or will the likes of Halfords stock it ?

Halfords is fine. I got mine there when i was caught short and me oil light came on.

CASTROL EDGE 5W 30 i think?

About 15-16 squid a litre.
Also BP garages generally sell Castrol oils etc.

I get 1litre and 4litre containers of the correct Castrol Edge 5w/30 from my local Halfords.

So who uses what oil then? I also go to Halfords but my RS4 is run on Mobil 1 which was used by my local dealer on both services.

When my RS4 was serviced it came back from the dealer with a 1L bottle of Castrol Edge (the specially badged for Audi dealers version) in the boot.

The manufacturer of the oil isn't important - all that matters is that the oil meets the correct VW specification.

OR you can use Halfords own brand specifically for VW/Audi, meets spec VW 507.00 , cheaper alternative.............
