what oil?

what oil do you guys use in your S4 engines? i've heard lots of people use mobil 1 0w 40, is that good stuff? the audi garage put sinta gold in, but thats only £11 whereas mobil 1 is nearer £40, is it worth the money? [img]images/graemlins/sekret.gif[/img] [img]images/graemlins/s4addict.gif[/img]

Imo you are better to stick with the synta gold.

Mobil1 is a little too thin for vag engines and tends to make them use more oil. You may also find it makes it sound a little more tappetty.

There are 2 grades of Mobil 1 - the normal 0W 40 which is very thin and the motorsport grade which is 5W 50 and is used by many running race engines - I do myself. The strange thing is there is no difference in price - they are both seriously expensive but I think worth it.

I run my 1998 audi S4 on mobil 1 oil. doesn't sound any different.

My S3 used to run on Castrol SLX Longlife but is now on Mobil 1. Will post differences once ive done a few thousand miles.

My S3 used about 4-5 litre before its 16.6k miles AVS service...... im now on 17.6k miles and it seems that the oil is still around full level.

If i recall correctly the Mobil 1 has a better temperature rating so should hold up better.

Will see how much it sucks after ive done another 1000-2000miles id say.
