Test driving b7 tmrw, how will it compare to my b5?
My b5 is in for a service tmrw and they have just got in a 56 plate avant in sprint blue with buckets and tech pack which i have arranged a test drive in,it doesnt seem too dear at £34k with only 19k miles on it,who else has made the move from b5 to b7? My b5 is 460bhp so a drop in outright power but does the handling of the b7 make up for it? Im really unsure what to do,ideally i would like to keep the b5 aswell but simply cant financially do it,i will have to sell my b5 and cooper s to pay for the b7 its goin to have to be good for me to do it,if it really pushes my buttons il consider trading the mini in against it and some short term finance while i sell the b5 any thoughts would be appreciated
RE: Test driving b7 tmrw, how will it compare to my b5?
If its a goer i think £32k is what i should be aiming at paying for it what do you think?
If I had a tuned B5 I would keep it. The only plus points I can see in favoutr of the B7 is the handling, dynamicism and the updated interior. If it were an OEM B5 it may be slightly different.
I love my RS4 Avant, in Sprint Blue as well, however I am realistic in thinking the B7 still has some way to go yet regarding depreciation and you selling two cars for one, the B7 is very very good but IMO not that good. You would really have to love one to part with what you have. That said, my answer is head driven rather than heart.
Good luck with the test drive.

My head usually JUST wins over the heart when it comes to cars, and i am thinking that my b5 is probably a better bet to stay in financially i have to agree especially as there 4-5k seperating early b7 private sale cars and late low mileage b5s,but i like the mini because it handles great and has an awesome harmon kardon stereo and is a bit cheeky if you know what i mean, having said that its not shy though ive had it tuned to 210bhp,i suppose im hoping the b7 will offer the best of both my current cars in one car,I only drive one of them every other week as im in a lift share at work so im paying to run and suffer depreciation on 2 cars that i dont do many miles in,im hoping the drive in the morning clears it up one way or another as ive been pondering for some time

In terms of finding the best of both a B5 RS4 + MCS in a B7 RS4.....not gonna happen.lengster1 wrote:My head usually JUST wins over the heart when it comes to cars, and i am thinking that my b5 is probably a better bet to stay in financially i have to agree especially as there 4-5k seperating early b7 private sale cars and late low mileage b5s,but i like the mini because it handles great and has an awesome harmon kardon stereo and is a bit cheeky if you know what i mean, having said that its not shy though ive had it tuned to 210bhp,i suppose im hoping the b7 will offer the best of both my current cars in one car,I only drive one of them every other week as im in a lift share at work so im paying to run and suffer depreciation on 2 cars that i dont do many miles in,im hoping the drive in the morning clears it up one way or another as ive been pondering for some time

I own both the MCS R53 tuned ~225 bhp and the B7 RS4 now. The driving experience for both is totally on the opposite end of the definition "fun". Both are great cars but they are both meant for a different application and target market.
If you enjoy lots of short runs and track, the MCS is a better bet. If you do more long distance runs, the RS4 would be a better suit.
Comparison to a B5 RS4? No idea, but if the car is ageing, maintenance is another issue to factor in, not that the B7 is exactly low on it either!
Best bet, test drive and to both brains squabble, whichever wins, go with that one!

Since the B7 is NA and the B5 highly turbo charged then the B7 WILL feel slow because it's power delivery is more linear, but when you look at the speedo you will be surprised.
If you like the kick in the back feel of the B5 then you won't like the B7, but if you like the rev right to the red line feel of the B7 then you'll love it.

Gone: 2006 B7 RS4 Avant (Phantom Black)
Deposit paid, went out in it 3 times with it growing on me more each time, the roads are very greasy and had a good slide out of the rear and pushed the front wide on a couple of occasions but all very unfussed the chassis is superb, yes the shove in the back of my b5 was not there but the progress and speed it builds and holds in the corners is superb, ive negotiated the price down and they have agreed to fit new front discs and pads, the day has been manic my head is in bits i usually plan major things like this, the tempory finance has got me worried as im a cash man and wont rest until ive squared it,they have offered me a deal at 9% with no early settlement clause can i do better?
congratulations mate, has your b5 got standard suspension and ARBs ?

Its madness im going to listen to my head and sell my other cars first, the deal is decent but not when i will pay 1-2k in in payments while my other cars sell,im torn and gave myself a headache over this but i just cant justify that much finance to get the car now rather than wait until ive sold my others, ive just spent 1500 on the b5 and 700 tuning the mini i think i need to enjoy and use these two for at least a little while before they sell,Lynchy yes my car is upgraded suspension it runs quattro gmbh inc thicker rear roll bar

Exactly the same here!Tartan_Rob wrote:A word from the guy who is always impulse buying:- Unless you want to shop, don't go looking.
Twice I've been down to just look at Fontain cars and twice I came back with an S8 Final Edition and RS6 plus, I just couldn't help it! Hell, when I was there last getting my DRC replaced, I very nearly bought a black, very low mileage B7 RS4 that was totally mint. I really had to restrain myself!! Of course I couldn't really afford any of them, but finance brings that dangling carrott so close you can actually eat it!
