Fuel Gauge playing games with me

Post by bienvenum » Mon Oct 27, 2003 1:12 pm

I have a problem on my S4 where when the fuel level gets below half a tank the gauge starts swinging from the correct fuel load to zero, and the computer starts telling me I have no fuel.....

It has been into my local Audi dealers who are <beep>, and they have not been able to replicate the problem.... personally I think they haven't tried cos everytime I have taken it in the gauge has been playing it's games with me...

Has anyone else had this problem ? if so do they know what it is ? how did they get their dumb ass dealer to find the fault...... it's driving me nuts, as I am constantly filling the car up to keep it above half a tank !

Cheers

Looks like a right pain in the arse job and dangerous too. Read the editors note (about avoiding sparks) and then (laugh at) the instructions (using a hammer and chisel to remove the cover plate ).

Common sense advises NOT to use a hammer and chisel - if you are doing it get the correct tool but better still get a specialist to do it and make sure that your insurance cover is fully in place.

There is also a thread on the TT forum - seems like a similar problem. Heard that problems with dash / display are second only to the coil packs !
