Rear calipers serviceable?
RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Rear calipers serviceable?
4d0698671 £13.44 plus vat invoice says each but opened the box and theres a pair in there to do both sides so who knows, one of my seals hadnt been seated properly and looks like the caliper bore has minor corrosion on it but the piston cleaned up fine,so a polish up re treat the alloy caliper grease up and see how she goes

Yes although it says qty1, there is a set of seals to do both calipers.

Its a good job as theyre a pig to do,I ruined 1 piston seal on re assembly i hadnt cleaned out the seat of the seal area well enough and on re assy the piston took a little piece out of it !! At one point i was wishing i had bought a new caliper for the time it took

ill do mine over christmas, any tips on getting the dusk skirt thing on properly, is it best to over stretch it round the piston and slide it to the end that goes in the caliper, then seat the other end into the caliper before pushing the piston into the caliper? or did you find a better way?
RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Rear calipers serviceable?
Bugger just wrote a blow by blow explanation,Its best to fit the dust seal to the caliper while the piston is removed as fitting a new dust seal with the piston in the caliper is almost impossible to do without damaging it,i did try with a blunt screwdriver but you cant get good accsess all the way round the casting of the caliper gets in the way,if you get stuck give me a call on 07939597605
RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Rear calipers serviceable?
when i took my old s4 one apart i really struggled to stop the boot pulling out of the caliper when trying to get the piston back in, although saying that i was trying to get an old boot back in that had poped out, so had quite a nasty kink in it, ended up just putting it back together and getting anew caliper, thought i would give the seals ago this time as my RS has one caliper not realeasing as quickly as it should and i can see a nick in the boot, hopefully the piston will polish up. Thanks anyway

Yes thats why fitting the seal to the caliper is best done before you re insert the piston, you can get your fingers in and make sure the seal is right in the groove if will need a good scrub out like mine no doubt, ease the smaller end over the piston and chase it down as you progress the piston back in the caliper and when the piston is fairly well in pop it in its groove
