WRC Rally mud!

Post by al'srs4 » Sun Dec 14, 2008 10:58 am

Had a awesome time on this years WRC wales rally GB. Saw a couple of RS4's but no one on this forum me thinks (the one guy had never even heard of Milltek even though he'd had the car 12 months)

Anyway, got back on the motorway home and to my surprise the car was driving like I was still on a forest stage not the M53. Massive shaking through the seat and wheel. Got home gave the car a thorough wash thinking it must be mud on the alloys.

Following morning still there, I must have throw a couple of weights while on the rally. Into the tyre shop I go, the guy said where have you been in this? Why, what do you mean, I said? He then pointed at the alloy and said have you seen this. I said seen what, there was nothing there!

To my shock he then picked up a scraper thingy and started chipping off what looked like part of my alloy, but which turned out to be approx 5mm of polished clay welded to the inner side of the alloy around the complete circumference. Honestly, if you had seen it, you would have been amazed at how much like the alloy it looked. 30 mins with a plastic scraper - car runs great again.

While I was on the rally I couldn't help thinking that if Audi still rallied then I am sure they would be running an RS4 - what an awesome machine that would be.

Can't wait for Ireland next month - fast, slippy tarmac, great!

Not that I'm disagreeing with you regards the pedigree of the RS4, but WRC cars tend to be turbocharged.

I guess its the torque they need out of the slow bends which means turbo is the way to go...

I thought the regulations were it had to be under 2 litres and turbo charged?

I was at the rally as well, probably saw your car as I saw a few RS's... When I washed my car off on way home, the poor bloke behind me in the que at the jet wash came over to ask where on earth I'd been as he could see hhhuuugggee clumps of mud coming off my car. Great weekend.

Sounds like you had a good time, I don't think I would have the balls to take my pride and joy on a WRC rally stage, the track was bad enough lol

did you get any clips, bet it was a great car to use.

Strange about the solidified clay, bet it drove all over the place!
Money can't buy you love, but it can buy you a well sorted racecar

Let me just clarify, we don't physically enter our cars for the rally merely spectate, which ofern involves driving up muddy forest stages. I would have to be insane or as you say rich to rally my RS4,
