Battery Life

Hello

I hope this doesn't curse my battery, but how long are they supposed to last?

My car is a Feb 2001 and still on the original battery! I use it every day for 10 mile plus journeys and its still going strong

Surely its days are numbered?

Normally 5 years is considered good, yours is the exception to the rule. using it every day must help rather than leaving it standing

Do the batteries deteriate, or just dont work one morning?

They deteriorate;you'll notice the slower working starter as a first sign.

meh - the battery on my parents old E class estate lasted about 13/14 years. They've had teh car from new and it was the first breakdown it ever had...

Then again i think the quality of parts was better back then - the replacement died in abotu 3 years...
