Hello - interested in your views on owning a RS6 Avant

Post by Chris33 » Thu Aug 21, 2008 8:36 pm

Hi, I currently drive an Impreza WRX estate and am interested in a RS6 Avant (the old model) due to its pace and space. Can someone please give me an idea of how often they need serviced, typical running costs etc. I live in London so will probably only do 7-8k miles per year most of which are drives up to and around Scotland 3 times per year. I would really appreciate your views! Much appreciated, Chris

Hey Chris
I've finally been able to make 'the dream' reality... after four years of dreaming I was able to acquire my own RS6. I've had it for just over a month now and am loving every bit of it. You know... thinking of excuses every few minutes to take it for a drive...lol One thing I have noticed though is these beasts are really thirsty even at low speeds... compared to my previous car 1998 Audi A4 2.8i Quattro. Expect an average of no better than 27 mpg. But hey, as soon as you start that engine and hear that roar and feel the power everything else fades away. And I mean ever word - lightly pressing down on the pedal... everything outside fades away!
I have done my homework quite well before I bought mine and I suggest you do the same. My RS like many other is on the variable service which means it only needs servicing every 2 years/ 19'000miles which ever comes first. Costs approximately £600 at an agent. Watch out for the Cambelt Replacement Service (every 40K!) which amounts to over £800. Spacewise... I'm 1.94m and this car offers all and more space than I'll ever need. Without touching my drivers seat I comfortably fit in the back!
Most of my knowledge and rersearch was obtained/ done on RS246.com and Googling. Hope your search pays off and one day you too can live the dream... Any questions just shout!
Kind Regards
Chris.

RS6 (MRC'd with econodrive) is not just for Xmas

never been an Evo guy. Have had 3 scoobies before growing up in the 6. Many a trip to the Ring too in them ( the 6 was a disappointing one there).

Not to decry your research, but these cars should NEVER be on a variable service! Every 10k as a maximum, with an oil change every 5 if you drive hard.
Cam belts at Audi are £1500, WITHOUT doing the pulleys tensioners, stat and Water pump. My quote for that lot was near 4K! You can of course take it to a specialist as I most other owners do, and save loads of money and get a better job done as well.
If you have any doubts to what i am saying here, please call Grizz @ unit 20.
I am telling you this not to be a dick, but to make sure you dont blow your car up, or get a huge shock for servicing costs.....
