AMD power upgrade claims

Post by Gareth » Thu Oct 23, 2003 1:46 pm

Anyone got some views on how fair and true the AMD claims for their mods-re-maps/Milteks etc- are?

Thanks,
Gareth.

I would imagine that they are a conservative representation of the expected figures. Why do you ask?

Hi Phil

I'm asking because there is some doubt in the S4 V8 forum that the re-map/Milteks and racing cats can produce a 20+% increase in power.

I've driven the modded cars and they sure felt good...but maybe not 420bhp good... Hence I thought I'd ask how true the AMD figures normally are and if they will stand by them.

Not sure how this suddenly became an AMD thread.

RS6 Barry's chip was from another tuner.

Surely the question should be put to them, not AMD.

Er...it became an AMD thread when I started it as "AMD power claim" thread... (Apologies if I've got the wrong end of your post though)

I was just asking if AMD usually make boastful claims that can't lived up to. I know that Barry had another company do his re-map but it appears that others have tried the Lister AMD car/s and also doubt that the AMD re-map/racing cats and Milteks can provide the claimed 420bhp.

I seem to recall another thread before that claimed that AMD's rolling road is not the last word in accuracy..

Ok, I have had my car AmD'd and on the rollers at G Force the figures are quite accurate, within a few bhp

The new style S4 is an odd car, basically you need to look at the bhp and torque figures, the new S4 will actually produce the 420bhp but as it is not a turbo charged car the torque increase is poor, hence the driving feel isnt that good

After all we should really talk about how much torque we have not bhp as it is torque that we drive with

I notice on AmD's site they only mention torque gains ont he turbo 2.7 S4's

Maybe you should ring them and ask

That is just my thoughts
Can't beat a bit of boost!

Thanks Bushy, you are right about the torque aspect...especially as it's a V8 of course

I will give AMD a call today and see what they have to say.

cheers,
Gareth.

I've just answered the other thread. Based on my 'armchair' engineering, I think that 400bhp is quite realistic for a full Miltek and remap. I guess that 420bhp is for different cats, and maybe a more aggressive (thirsty) remap. Again I think it must be quite achievable.

Of course at the end of the day peak power itself doesn't say much about the overall performance does it?
