S4 Headlights

Post by GDS968 » Wed Nov 05, 2008 5:14 pm

Advice Please

I have to replace my offside headlight as it now has a slight crack and is letting in water. Has anyone replaced with anything other than stock units and was it worth it/as good as the oem unit.

cheers

Gary

On a car like that i would only really use OEM stuff. With them being xenon's too you need to make sure they are good quality.

When we fitted some facelift lamps to my brothers A4, due to an ebay farce we ended up with two OEM Valeo units, one of which was damaged internally (one of the adjustment pegs had snapped) and one Depo unit to replace the broken Valeo.

We did some google research at the time and basically found a few people saying they were junk, mainly due to the quality of the projectors. A lot of googling later and i discovered that quite a big thing on the Merc forums seems to be to buy depo projector light units, then dismantle them and fit E55AMG or Audi RS6 Projectors into the depo casing to actually get decent quality parts in there.

We were dismantling the headlights to joeymod them anyway, so while they were in bits we swapped the depo projector out for the valeo one.

I guess if the replacement copy lamps were cheap enough it might be worthwhile buying a halogen depo lamp unit, and retrofitting your xenon projector unit to it.

IF you can find a motor factor or someone selling a Valeo unit, then go for that as it is OEM

Failing that, and if you want a OEM one, give me a shout.
