Anyone upgraded the Bose system?

Post by lengster1 » Sun Nov 02, 2008 6:55 pm

Ive changed the fronts some time ago for JBL 2 ohm components but overall im not that happy with the system,I have a mini cooper s with harmon kardon in it and have to say its mega in comparison,it may well be because its a smaller cabin but i would like to get the same sound quality into the rs4 as i favour the mini to drive purely for its great stereo, what have any of you guys tried?

Hi lengster, I think it is possible to get a far more superior sound than the Bose, which I think is crap. I'm currently re-searching this now but still not come up with anything viable. Will post something when I find something I'm happy with - however, which ever way you go a sub has to come into the equation for the bottom end. Unless you go into hyper ICE territory which will slot straight into the pre-exisiting fittings.

I'd like to upgrade the front speakers, to better units, but keep the OEM look

My front left speaker seems to be abit distorted, does any one know where I can get a new or second hand pair, how much should I be looking to pay?, don't want to change fronts, would like to stay with Bose if possible.

Yeh thats why i change my fronts fo jbl but took a full day making up the adapter plates and getting it all to fit well,I also thought bose was ok for a few years but its only when you hear something much better you realise that it isnt.Im thinking of ugrading the rears and maybe increasing the size of the sub speaker but the sub looks a pig to remove,I have my reservations though and tempted to go to a full new conventional set up to free up the speaker options, its no loss loosing the nav head unit i only ever use tom tom but i dont really want to lose the origonal look in the cabin if you know what i mean?

Agreed and as I said, I prefer it to the sound of the RNS-E unit from the B7, the Acoustics and bass on the Symphony in the B5 is far deeper and superior in every way.

I replaced a buzzing rear door speaker with Audi a while back - it was £72.34 plus VAT for the part.
