fixing wipers, hit a hitch with the ECU box...
Fellas,
I'm fixing my stuck-wipers-syndrome and have followed the Audiworld tech article, I can't get the assembly out from behind the ECU box... It seems, having done further searches here, that I need to move the ECU box itself. Can anyone point me to a guide explaining how to do that or give me a few tips, I can't really see where to start to free it and a few searched haven't turned up anything.
Appreciate any help!

Hi , remove the 8mm screws that hold the lid on .remove the metal clip that holds the ecu in , Unplug the ecu & remove it. If you look in the ecu box there is a 10mm bolt , once this is removed the box will move enough so you can remove the linkage.

awesome - thanks for the reply, my first foray into the world of "sockets" etc. I didn't want to bust something already and figured the ECU might be one of the easier pieces to destroy!

Thanks again Grizz - got the ECU box moved today and the mechanism out (eventually!)... Then ingeniously split a spline in half trying to free it from its housing with a hammer! Bugger.
I need a new mechanism now so phoned the local stealers, they say the Audi part number will take 5 days but a part for a Passat might do... and I could have it in a day but would need to pay for it before I know if it will work... nice.... The only difference in the part numbers is a "D" at the end instead of a "G" on the wiper mechanism I took out. In full, the Passat part they have in stock is: 8D2 955 023 D
So, basically I'm wondering if anyone knows whether or not this will work
Cheers fellas.

I got a replacement mechanism for an A3 from Vagparts in 3 or 4 working days, it will be alot cheaper than the Stealers too!!
Give them a call, as it wont be listed on their site

The "G" in the part number is probably a German joke ... G for Gross i.e, cos it's an RS4 part they charge a bigger price for the same thing. But don't take my word for it, I'm just a cynical old sod. I don't know if they are the same or not.

Lads I talked to Vagparts about which part number I actually need and they say that the RS4 comes up with a LHD only linkage for the RS4 .... I guess it must be the same part for both Right and Left cars, anybody know?

RHD part no. will start of with 8D2.
LHD part no. will start of with 8D1
If the parts are not sided, then more than likely will start of 8D0.

RE: fixing wipers, hit a hitch with the ECU box...
Seems like I am in the same place! In trying to fix the slow wiper syndrome, and having got the wiper mech out without having to move the EcU box, in my kak handed attempts to bash one of the spindles out of its housing, I have broken it, and I still can't get it out! The corrosion has stuck it fast, and I think the simplest solution will be to order a new spindle and a new housing, ie a new frame for the whole mechanism! The part no. for the latter is written on it, so no worries there, however do you RS4Schumi or any one else know the part no. for a new spindle. Did the passat one work? I hope it doesn't rain!
Also. I was hoping to fit the aero wiper kit I ordered from Vag parts. However when I took the old wiper arms off, I noticed that inside the hole where they attach to the wiper mechanism, they seem to have grooves to match the splines on the spindle. The new aero arms which are different don't have these grooves, but are smooth. Is this a problem?
Grateful for replies.

Ok part no which is stamped on the frame that house the spindles is 8D2 955 023 G. No part numbers on the two spindles themselves, but they are slightly different, so do they come already assembled with the frame? It would really help if this were the case. Is this something that Vag parts would be able to tell me in the morning? It's raining and I can't use the car
