Depreciation
Dont get me wrong the Audi is a nice car but with prestige cars being hit even harder on depreciation now is the time to make the step up. I know its a tough decision to take a hit on your pride and joy and it is all relative. My fear is unless its something special or rare it won't hold its value as well.
I enjoyed the RS 4, can't fault it but as a third car for me personally its still an audi. No offense intended.
See you all in my rear view mirrors lol x

but of course it's only an Audi lol.

RE: Re: RE: Gap Insurance

good grief!!
buyers market then... there is another cabrio on here going for 45K WITH next to no miles on it registered this July.
some people are REALLY in trouble to sell up at these prices.
mind you VAT on a new cabrio is the thick end of 15k anyway which you loose as soon as you put pen to paper then depreciation looks like a grand a month.
OUCH!!

RE: Re: RE: Gap Insurance
APM were your offers from main dealers? Whats the spec and are you looking to sell soon?
RE: Re: RE: Gap Insurance
APM if my memory serves me right your car has done 80k? im sure privately you would still see 25k, no dealer is going to put an rs with that mileage on there forecourt.

I've copied this from the sales section as i don't think its appropriate to carry on the thread in a section where someone is trying to sell his car.
Are you trying to tell me that not only is your car worth £40000+ still but your house is still worth the same as last year ?
There is what looks like a mint RS4 Avant for £32500 ,the right spec and colour and with low mileage. If the market was so good for RS4's than surely this person could of walked into any Audi dealership and sold the car to them for that amount ?
But it's not because they would probably offer £3000/£5000 less than what he wants ( maybe more )
The true fact is that no one is buying high performance vehicles anymore unless its cheap, and by Christmas it will be worse. Have a look on the GT-R forum's and you will see that people are jumping ship on probably the only vehicle that has a chance of having good residuals in 2009.
If you don't believe me how bad it is, try ringing a few Audi dealers and see how much they offer for your car to take it in.

Yes, I am a potential buyer of a B7 Avant and so I am biased but I think you guys have to get real - the economy is stuffed and will remain so for the next 12 to 18 months minimum - therefore you can't expect anything but severe pain in terms of 2nd hand prices of premium cars.
I very nearly bought a B7 in mid july for £43k from a trader, that car would now be worth £34k or so if I was selling it privately. I am obviously damn pleased I didn't splash the cash but I think they have further to go to reflect evey other asset out there. After all we have just got over the banking crisis so the 'real' recession hasn't even hit yet.
Just take a look at Autotrader and Pistonheads for a reality check with high mileage cars starting to dip under 30k. You do get the odd dreamer asking for a high 30's for a 56 plate but they just stay there for months.
Sorry to urinate on the parade but just because you guys are saving 30 quid a week on super unleaded doesn't change the basic economics.
Having said all this I seriously think these cars are a usuable classic and that if anything in a couple of years time the good ones might appreciate in value, the shame is I think this will be from a £25k base.
BTW if anyone does have a B7 RS4 in grey or black with buckets, flat wheel, Sat nav and carbon interior I am a cash buyer at £28k!!
Oh crikey ,i've been lurking on the site for ages too and i might as well join in and agree with above.
I've got a fully loaded 335D M Sport Touring with the DMS remap. List was £46000 and even though its only just over a year old the trade bids have been around £21000 ( the car does have 37500 on the clock )
I'm actually in a position that i might buy a second car and keep the 335D for work as i just can't seem to shift it. I'm probably in a similar position to most of you who are thinking of selling your RS4'S that the price its getting so low that you might as well keep it and run it into the ground.
I started a thread on PH in the summer of this year asking if we would see a new shape M3 for £32999 by Christmas. Well , we're two months away and there are now several M3's that have sold for under £34000. In fact there is a Black fully loaded coupe M3 07 on there now for £33000 with just 12000 on the clock !
Lets all keep our cars and make these bargain hunters waitingSame with our houses lol

RE: Re: RE: Gap Insurance
Dealers will play it safe im sure with cheeky bids as over christmas is always quiet, but i feel that like the housing market the people that will suffer are the ones that HAVE to sell because theyve pushed there finances to the max when times were good,Good examples will always sell for fair money, even though b7s are only a couple of years old or so im sure the cheaper end is has its share of iffy motors that havent been cherished,a nice b5 was hard to find when they were 3 years old when i bought mine im sure b7s will be the same,im gently have a look at the b7 market and found that the main dealer cars are slightly better priced than most non main agent maybe its worth trying non franchised dealers for a p/x they might give nearer book

I think you know as well as I do that a car can look good in a pic but be an absolute pig in the flesh... pampered cars will always command a premium!joker wrote: There is what looks like...
If you are still looking for one and do buy one of these cheaper cars, come along to a meet and we can take a look to compare

I find myself agreeing with a lot of what has been said here on both sides. The reason I came out of the 'shadows' was that I thought it was slightly futile telling people not to talk prices down. I think that is likely to make little difference when what is driving the current level of depreciation is general sentiment, just like everything else, i.e. houses and shares.
I do agree that many of the cheaper cars will be dogs, it may or may not be the case for the sub £30k Mugello blue avant on Autotrader which is P1's car so I assume has had a pretty hard life.
I don't see that much point comparing RS4s to houses in that houses will inevitably go up again but it is exteremly rare for that to happen to a car which is not an exotic - once they have gone down I think perception in the market means people rely on the most recent sales prices.
The litmus test for me is what the Audi dealers are doing and by the looks of it they are pricing only a couple of grand behind private sellers for the same spec and age - I think that is pretty telling as I suspect most people would prefer the safety of buying from a dealer when paying out 30 odd grand. That will be especially true now older cars are in the last year of their warranty and so Audi will be providing a fresh 12 months.
Anyway I think I am dragging out what is getting to be a pretty pointless debate - prices will do whatever they were going to do anyway and if you finder a buyer at a decent price great. I just wait to see what happens with that white B7 which is on Autotrader, was about £60k which was just a bit hopeful. A great attention grabbing spec but I wouldn't want to be the one trying to flog that.

Dealers will typically pay up to £10K less than what is heir forecourt price on an RS4. Before the crunch this is what I was ebing ofefred for my RS$ Avant and they even told me that they would be looking to make at least a £6K profit out of moving it on, the rest is put in because of possible p/x and haggling and any work needing doing to the car to get it to sale condition.
