Tanoga RS4/S4 light weight flywheel
Tanoga RS4/S4 light weight flywheel
Over the last couple of months I have received numerous enquires for price and availability on our light weight flywheel. Some of these enquires have resulted in sales and some have not. I can only assume that the current retail price of £565 + VAT has put some people off. I have therefore taken a more long term approach to the manufacturing processes involved and have invested in some more efficient manufacturing equipment which will allow me to produce larger batch quantities and in turn allow me to reduce the retail selling price without reducing the quality of the product.
The reason for this post is to try and get an indication as to how many people are potentially interested in purchasing a light weight flywheel. This will allow me to offer a very competitive price via rs246.com.
If I can get about 10 people to commit with delivery scheduled between 5 to 10 weeks (you choose the date to suit you) I would be able to supply each flywheel at a cost of £400.00 + VAT + delivery.

Re: Tanoga RS4/S4 light weight flywheel
I would be interested, but what's holding me back is that I would like the work to coincide with the fitment of a new uprated clutch. Problem then is which clutch? I don't want a paddle clutch. Might be time to talk to AP Racing again.
Maybe if we get enough interested people together we could approach someone like AmD or QST to offer a discount for the fitment also.

Re: Tanoga RS4/S4 light weight flywheel
I would be interested for getting additional 15hp as you mentioned. But my tuner is not excited with the work ! I was suggested to do that when the clutch die.
As Bem asked, is there any way not to raise the eng. block ?

Agreed, the best time to replace the flywheel is when your clutch has died. My understanding is that the engine block does not have to be raised to replace the clutch, consequently the same would apply to the flywheel.

I am running the standard Audi clutch with 458bhp and have no problems with it. When I approached AP Racing about an uprated clutch there where to many issues involved that put a stop to it, eg tooling cost, batch size, how far do you want to go with it etc

I'm just about managing to survive with my stock clutch in conjunction with my upgrades, but I do get a rather large amount of slipage. Looking forward, I am planning some additional upgrades which will require the clutch to handle upwards of 550bhp.

Re: Tanoga RS4/S4 light weight flywheel
Karl,
Can you qualify what improvements the flywheel offers. I accept that the engine will rev more freely, how does this translate to more power? Have you got any dyno/RR printouts. A local tuner suggests that a lightweight flywheel can actually reduce torque, as some of the inertia is lost via the light flywheel - can you please clarify this ?
Cheers, Nige.

Re: Tanoga RS4/S4 light weight flywheel
Here is very good proof as to the benefits of Karl's flywheel. As you can see Nige the bhp and torque were way ahead of the other tuned guys.

What I can say is that an S4 with 385.5bhp and 416.9lbft before fitting the light weight flywheel had 397.9bhp and 435.9lbft after fitting the flywheel. Scott at AMD would be able to confirm this as it was one of his customers cars(Joshie) that these figures applied to.
