Just had an interesting talk with the missus... aparently we will be getting winter tyres for the S4... "Because the S6 was just mental on normal tyres"
To be fair, we have had some bad winters in Scotland for the last few years, lots of cold wet/frosty mornings and for the last four years we had "winters" for the UrS6. Toyo snowproxes, ran them from November through to Feb/March weather dependant. Had Eagle F1's the rest of the year.
Not sure what prompted the discussion, I can only surmize that she has been hooning it around and the car must have stepped out on her a bit and given her a fright on a cold wet road... (although she doesnt mind power sliding the Elise and wiping my T1r's)
So what options would be recomended for 18"s..? Do I stick with the Toyo's or is there another option? I have been through the forum and all the advice I can see says that there are plenty 18" to chose from but doesnt go into all that much more detail..
I would be looking to get these ordered in the next few weeks
Winter tyres..... ultimatum... SWMBO 18"

Well the Toyo snow proxes are now fitted.. feels a little squirmy on te limit but there is no denying the grip is there in the wet..

Had a late night run with the Lotus club up to Pitlochry on Friday.. was around -1 for most of the night, gip was good with great balance on the car. The chassis is factory std with a recent geo-check done on it, std tyre pressure all round. Car felt great. A little understeer if I carried too much speed into te corner, the nose tucks in nice on lift off and it just erupts out of the corner when the power goes back on.. Must admit to prefering the car in sport mode rather than trying to play around with the paddles.. it actually felt better which was a surprise to me having had an S6 manual before.. very clever gearbox on these S4's..
The tyres were first class.. able to easily pull away with mega cold grip.. the S2 Exige and S1 Elise were struggling to get the power down on T1r's.. and these lads aint slow..
