Are you still on for the Rolling Road day on Saturday? I never heard back from you after your initial interest.

There will be a few of us with Vagcom there on the day, so can give your car the once over if you head down. Even if you don't fancy running, it would be a good chance to ask these sorts of questions.

There are currently 13 B5 owners down on the running list. 8)

V-Power always comes from the same source (Stanlow).

Just doesnt' feel as good compared with Tesco 99 for me...

And, TBH, was out in the RS this afternoon - mine idled pretty smoothly if I'm honest, and I've been running Tesco 99 ONLY for at least 10 months.

Been using V-Power for a while now in the Smart (which demands it) and the RS. Seem to get sharper throttle response and slightly more to the gallon in the RS, Smartie goes like a rocket with a Brabus/Evil Twin remap- also use Tesco 97 and Esso Super routinely and BP Ultimate occasionally, V-Power and Tesco are usually cheaper and freely available so they usually get the nod.
:D

next question has anyone been brave enough to work on there own cars eg engine rebuilds etc. i did the engine on the skyline myself and so am starting to get more confidence as time goes on. are there any pdf files for workshop maintanence or the like?

Your best bet is to get hold of ELSA off ebay or something.

This is the VAG workshop manual and will cover the RS4. Will have all you need in that

I've also logged my misfire block values on VAG-COM, but no one cylinder goes more than 3 on the count, and then drops back to 0. Like I said nothing to worry about. Mine like TopBear's is maintained to the highest standard

I even took off both the cam covers to check for the dreaded cam wearing issue, and mine were totally fine....phew!

thanks virdee. it's nice to know your not alone with the paranoia of high performance cars, and constant checking of things. this is probably a bit rude but can someone point me in the right direction for a vagcom compatible with the rs4. eg an actual ebay number or company product number. i just don't want to waste money thats all.

best bet is to go to www.ross-tech.com or go to this link http://www.ross-tech.com/Merchant2/merc ... ode=VAGCOM

Basically you want the "VCDS (VAG-COM Diagnostic System) License with HEX-USB+CAN Interface" or if you haven't got USB ports on your laptop then VCDS (VAG-COM Diagnostic System) License with HEX-COM+CAN Interface

It will be good to see how similar spec cars perform that are running different brands of fuel

I bought from this guy on Ebay and the cable comes with a disk with all the relevant drivers.

Yeh like mikey says, do a search, enough info on here. Pictures are not really something ou want to see, and then NOT check yours ASAP!

In short, cars which were on longlife schedule (long oil change intervals) suffer from this and have also heard someone say that degraded MAF's can cause this. The hardening on the cam lobes wears away (becomes sort of flat!), and puts a gouge in the hydraulic bucket/tappet, and in worst case, valve collets become unattached, and the valve(s) drop into the piston chamber, and literally new engine time!

Best to take your cam covers off, and just check both banks of cams, as it's only abit of labour plus around £45 for 2 rocker cover gaskets. Did mine around 2weeks ago, and glad to report no faults here!
