Rs2 versus Rs4 in terms of trouble making ?!?!
since the day i bought my rs2 i am facing some serious performance problems.my car is old (95) and unluckily it has been serviced by very strange people.
a good friend also my next door neighbour had a rs4 ,his car was tunedup to mouth.he had everything in terms of modification.he never had any problem
now what i wonder is:
-is rs4 more strong then rs2 or i dont have too much luck and i bought a bad car? (bad here means:problem maker)

It appears the RS4's are as reliable as the S4's, if not better !
Compare that with some of the maintenance talk I've heard about the RS2, and yes the RS4 is much better. But it is much younger. What type of trouble will the RS4 give in another 6 years ? who knows.
In general, i think they are getting better though.

Re: Rs2 versus Rs4 in terms of trouble making ?!?!
timucin,
How do you know that you haven't just got a bad RS2?
The RS2 has a proven track record of being in general a very reliable car... just check out the EVO Magazine buying guide...
http://www.mcp-motorsport.com/Content/T ... di_RS2.asp
Instead of ascribing all RS2s as bad or less reliable.. perhaps you just have a bad example?
There are several reasons in general why a turbo charged car doesn't perform as it should : (i've owned previously quite a few turbo cars..)
Assuming the loss of performance isn't environmental (high temps, high altitude) and it isn't poor fuel :
1) Vacuum control lines leaking or fractured : result - turbo wastegate stays open.. only running base boost setting. Fix - Replace all old vacuum lines with new silicone lines (or OEM... whatever).
2) Wastegate actuator is leaking under boost : result - turbo wastegate stays open.. only running base boost setting. Fix - Replace wastegate actuator.
3) Dump-valve (diverter valve) is leaking (diaphragm burst) : result - engine can't lock down boost.. so boost is vented away. Fix - Replace Dump Valve.
4) Hole in the intercooler delivery pipes. : Result, air being metered is wrong.. running rich, bad idle (at worse case), smoke on acceleration.. no power.. maybe even limp home mode. Fix : Replace pipeing
5) Boost Control solenoid problem : Motor management instructs valves to open and close to control the wastegate, this is usually done through a solenoid.. can become faulty in cars older than 3 years. Result : Wastegate defaults to open and vents boost. Fix : Replace the solenoid.
6) Air Mass Meter failure : Very common failure point on a great many cars.. air not getting metered properly.. shows up usually is a huge flat spot where peak boost ( and peak torque shows up on the map..).. on an RS2.. peak torque of 410NM is at 3000rpm... so I'd expect a feeling of surging on/off acceleration around there if the AMM is faulty. Result : Car is metering and measuring intake air all wrong.. it's adjusting boost and fueling as a result... and getting it wrong for the combustion process.. Fix : replace air mass meter.
7) Lambda sensor failure.. causing a loop back failure on the fueling/air/boost mix.. Fix: Replace sensor in downpipe.
Now getting into the expensive reasons :
Fueling problem.. perhaps injectors are faulty/dirty.
9) Head gasket problem.
10) General engine issue
11) Turbo seals
12) General turbo turbine failure
So.. there are plenty of things to look at and generic to nearly all turbo charged cars, regardless of whether they are an Audi, Saab, Porsche or Ferrari F40...

-i ve got a bad rs2.

-as i said i have a bad example but however two other rs2 are not running as 315hp?all three cars are working but they are not performing as 315 hp.how come 200hp subaru is same fast
may be i dont know how to drive?
-yes i may not know how to drive but then how come when i drive the subaru i go faster then my friend?
Dear Rs2_mark ;
pls do not misunderstand me , i like rs2 thats why i bought it.it didnt came out from the lottery or smthng.i am trying my best to run this car properly.i am following all message boards including germans.i have spoken more then 5 hours on the phone with the major tuners.
as far as i come i faced too much problems.my car has 85000km and has no accidents.i have changed all the components in the engine room and i still coulndt find that 315hp.this is what i am complaining about.
i do hope you are receiving more then 999999999999 hp and do hope you never have any problems with your car for next 9999999999 years.sincerely.

Re: Rs2 versus Rs4 in terms of trouble making ?!?!
I've had an RS2 since new and it has been by far and away the most reliable car I've ever had. The EVO article mentioned in one of the previous posts details how the RS2 is a very reliable car if serviced properly.
Audi RS2 - the original
Re: Rs2 versus Rs4 in terms of trouble making ?!?!
in my short experiance and from reading post's on this site the rs2 seems to have a stronger clutch and gearbox, both engines seem to be bullet proof and niether seem to suffer from turbo problems.the rs2 seems a very strong car.
the only soft part of the rs4 is the wheels, but they havn't been around as long as the rs2.

In 5 or 10 years time, which of these will be classic?
Re: Rs2 versus RS4 versus RS6
i believe both;
rs 2 as the first production of fast estates and rs4 as
succesor of rs2

They'll undoubtedly both be classic cars but inevitably the RS2 will be the most desired for a number of reasons.
- it was the first RS Audi.
- it was produced by Porsche.
- RHD numbers produced of the RS2 (186) were much less than the RS4 (400)

Re: Rs2 versus RS4 versus RS6
I`m just wondering has any RS2 owner built one as new......
i.e. taken there old car and sourced all RS2 parts and rebuilt the car, effectively making a new car

Riz;
i think i am on that way to build a new rs2 part by part... it has been quite long since i got my car and it only stayed one (1 -uno -eins ) night in my garage.its in service since the day i got her. they are sending a new list every weekend....
it will be a brand new car at the end, if i can afford

Re: Rs2 versus RS4 versus RS6
Hi Timucin
As you know, I have been having problems with my RS2 - Audi have had my car since March 15, and still cannot resolve the power issue. I propose taking my car to a specialist soon. I only mention this so you do not fall in the same trap I did. Audi Dealers may be well intentioned, but do not have the resources and enthusiasm for cars like these - they make more bonus by servicing A4's quickly. I also heard that Audi are not so keen to supply parts after the 10 years commitment, unlike makes like BMW & Porsche. So beware!!! I do like my RS2 and think it will be great classic - BMW M5 Touring is not desired, same sort of era and power.
