Headlight upgrade for early 1999 S4

Post by ogg14 » Sat Sep 20, 2008 3:16 pm

I am looking for an upgrade for my april 1999 S4.. pre-facelift model...

Currently i have the two piece headlights/indicators... Can someone help me with a very good replacement...

I have spotted some 99-01 rs4 headlights for sale but will buying these give me a improvement from what i have already... or does someone known of anything else i could use...

Any help would be much appreciated...

The facelift lights are only a cosmetic upgrade. If you're wanting better lighting, you'll need to look into getting a decent 50W+ HID kit.

There is a lot of info on here if you search for HID. Some guys have gone dual xenon, but I think if you don't want to take that route, Osram 'Nightbreakers' are recommended for full beam.

Just replacing your 9 year old xenon bulbs (even with cheap ebay specials) will give a good improvement, plus you can choose your shade.
Here's a link to an old post of mine on the subject....

I have just bought a 6K HID kit from fleabay... from china though. They werent expensive so if they are rubbish i wont be so upset about it...

I will be replacing the whole headlamp unit for one piece item that will arrive very soon so i will add the new 6k kit to them. Should be a huge improvement..

Did you guys get the 50-55W kits? I got a 30W kit and it was very poor compared to OEM.

Neither... I bought the 35watt kit... Didnt want any problems with the wiring in the future... I have read many positives about these kits but i will wait and see how they turn out...

Sorry, it was the 35W kit from eBay seller 'Diane-Shop' that I bought.

Takes them about 20-30 seconds to fire up and they are nowhere near as bright as my OEM lights off my 1998 S4(not sure if the bulbs had been replaced before I bought it a couple of years ago).

They take 5 mins to install, so you might as well give them a go and see how they do.
Infact install one, then see the difference between the beams. I wish I'd done this to get a genuine comparison.

Would be interested to see how you find yours. My ballasts may be faulty, etc.

I have OLLO xenons in the high beams, and they are very good. Wires are made of silicon, and the connectors are also good.
