Suspension

Probably a silly question, but are the S2 Avant and RS2 suspension the same except for Damper / Spring settings and ARB?

ARB & dampers & drop links (metal) are RS2 specific. Springs are the same as S2 aircon specification.

Thanks folks.

Wanting to get some s/h suspension components, have them cleaned and painted and fit new bushes etc to swap them onto the car as i feel the current bushes etc are a bit shot and I like the idea of the bits being cleaned up and looking shiny even if it is for one drive only!

So that's the winter project along with the engine, gearbox and diff mounts. Then roll on next years projects..............RS2 upkeep seems to be more like painting the Forth Bridge!

Like my legends. Currently have the RS2 and an Talbot Sunbeam Lotus. TSL not out much this year given the weather, paper thin paper mache body panels and water aren't a good mix even without salt on the road. RS2 however just seems to lap it up and laps up petrol but that's just another joy of ownership.

Had the bushes and mounts all checked out today and everything seems fine. Think I might be getting paranoid and reading more into things than I should. Still has some shunt in the driveline and the clutch is seriously heavy but it doesn't slip so might just wait..........however rear discs are marginal and the exhaust is not going to last another year so more overtime required!! Might still tidy up the suspension anyway for a pimped up look.

Clutch seriously heavy? That doesn't sound right. Heavy compared to what, Paul?

I've always thought how light the RS2 clutch is, considering the amount of grunt it transmits, to the extent that I wouldn't mind the Countess driving it except she claims she's forgotten how to drive manuals.

Hey, love that Lotus! If I had a bigger garage etc etc. They must be getting really scarce now.

TSL isn't as scarce as the RS2 but more of them seem to be cossetted in garages.

RS2 clutch on mine is excessively heavy but I have gotten used to it. It hasn't got worse in my ownership (2 years) but it would be nice not to have one leg stronger than the other. Have checked the piston to the mater cylinder from the pedal and the stroke is straight so have to assume it's further down the system. The first inch of so of travel is fine by the way so it doesn't seem to be the pedal spring either. Any thoughts as to what might be causing it?

It's not something off the wall like a worn pivot at the pedal, is it? Not Audis admittedly, but in the past I've known pedal pivots to wear oval and pedals to be curiously easy in parts of the travel and almost impossible in others.

Good for kangaroo starts, of course.

My clutch was much harder prior to the new unit fitted whilst fixing a broken thrust bearing. The new clutch is no heavier than any other newish car tbh.

I heard someone suggest they get heavier/stiffer with age?
