B5 or B6 ?

Post by liffy99 » Sat Sep 06, 2008 10:14 pm

Ok, I'm sure this ones been done to death somewhere but I've looked at loads of posts without seeing any sort of "head to head".
What would be best to go for - a very late B5 or early B6 ?

Specific comparisons;

Driving characteristics
Outright performance
Comfort
Toys
MPG
Running costs
Reliability

Don't want much do I . . . . .

I found the B6 S4 a much better car than the B5 S4 in most areas, when comparing a standard car.

The ride and handling is better.
Interior trim, seats better except the rear leg room.
The brakes again better.
The performance is better in the real world in normal driving, plus the noise is one of the best sound around. Fuel is around 22mpg.

I agree the B5 can be made better with suspension, remaps, Ko4`s, brakes etc etc. Like wise on the B6 a re-map, anti-rollbars, light wheels and a decent exhaust can make the B6 much better,

I think if you drive one of each in standard trim you will go for the B6.

It is a good question, I would like to know the answers, the prices are closer now, and it is an interesting debate especially as the B5s get older, be good to hear from someone who has had both?......

Thanks Philip, ( I posted before refreshing and seeing your reply), I think this debate is getting more relevant now as the prices change and the B5 gets older / higher mileage.
