new turbo's fitted

Post by f1 » Wed Jul 30, 2008 11:12 am

Ok guys have had some fun with my s4 in the last few weeks, turbo's started making noise when i was at le-mans so knew i needed to investigate! Managed to get some second hand ones that apparently had only done 16k and sent them of top our turbo people td in christchurch. They discovered that both the exhaust housings where cracked so required new ones.Anyway i was told that the turbo's can be done in situ which is kinda correct but its much easier to remove the engine (with hindsight) it took us around 5days solid (over 3 weeks) to change the turbo's and do a couple of other bits why we where at it.Dont know if there is any improvment yet as the old turbo's where still boosting ok but should see around 330-350 once the new map is on the car,the turbo's are hybrid k03 cant remember the spec of the top of my head but will post again once i can find the paperwork!Anyway the point of the post is dont try and change the turbo's in situ as its a real pita and if i was doing it again which no doubt i will at some point i will take the engine out!

Dont need to be run in as such just taking it easy for a few miles! Car should be mapped before the speed trails!!! So in the next month but still need an exhaust!

Update: ecu has been returned to standard as the map is currently being written! The turbo's have k04 comp wheels and cut back turbine wheel's + balancing, hope to increase the boost above the 17-18psi it was running and sort out the fueling which was very rich at the top end!
Will update again once the map is on the car!

May i ask the spec of the rest of the engine? Intercoolers for example!

Ok am mapping the car for the 3rd time today as the prevoius 2 maps were'nt correct in one way or another, does anyone know what the readings should be from the throttle body/accelorator pedal in vag-com as the throttle body could be the issue! It is telling us in vag-com that its on part throttle when its at 100% me thinks this is incorrect but have nothing else to gauge it on!

Who is mapping your car please? Such setups aren't really easy to map even for people who are relatively experienced with mapping in general but not specifically with S4s...

The maps for the car are being written by custom-code as we are dealers for them! I am specifically putting the maps on the car and logging using vag-com/innovate,the last map was ok upto around 5k then we had issue's hence the qusetion above! We are trying to sort out a map for the turbo set-up that is fitted to the car, fueling on the previous map was spot on so we are getting there!

Just thought - isn't this a question for CC. FFS don't post any VAG COM logs on here - I don't know much but that's good advice.
