I just got my car back from getting the cam belt changed and on the bottom of the invoice is a note that there are oil leaks from the Rocker Cover and Chain Tensioner Gaskets.
Shouldn't these leaks have been fixed at the time the cam belt was done?

Well I guess they should have asked you if you wanted it fixing whilst they were at it.
The breather pipe is quite often to go make sure its not this giving you the symptoms. Its that black pipe that connects to your silver intake y pipe on top of the engine.
I would have said the chances of two gaskets going at the same time was unlikely.
When I was doing a service on my car, I initiatally thought the something around the sump area of the engine was leaking oil. Smearings of oil was all over the sump, undertray and the two steel pipes coming out of the back of the sump. It turned out to be the breather pipe.

The Rocker covers are easy to replace £20.00 for the parts per side. The Chain Tensioner Gaskets are a lot more involving to replace.
Not something that would be part of a cam belt service.

Normally garages give the customer a call to say they've found a problem with the vehicle and would you like them to carry out the repair whilst everything is out, etc.
Did they even talk to you about it when you came to pick up the vehicle?

Unfortunately I didn't collect the car directly from the garage as it went elsewhere after the cambelt change, so I only found out about the oil leaks when I got the invoice.
Thats what annoys me is that I didn't get a call from them to say they had a problem. I would have gladly paid them to correct it at the time.
It's just the icing on the cake of a shitty experience with a supposed VAG specialist (non dealer). The car came back with greasy marks in the engine bay and scratches over the Y pipe, as though it had been kicked around the garage floor and the bumper was badly aligned. Not to mention it sat in the garage for 2 days after it was finished because the guy who was dealing with it was away and no-one else bothered to tell me it was ready!
They had a go at fixing the bumper and just made it worse so after 2 mths of back and forth its just been to a panel beater to get done properly.
And now I get the invoice and this!!

The tensioner gaskets can be done without disturbing the belt. It's only the inlet cams that need to be removed to be able to lift out the tensioners.
Sounds like a pretty amature workshop if you ask me.. and I'd definately take it elsewhere to get the leaks sorted as they are not the type of guys you want pulling your motor apart. Scratches on the Y pipe and bumper out of alignment... now that would piss me off!
Not asking you to name and shame, but roughly where is the butchers... I mean garage?
