great car the 996T but have to say on ahead to head at Brize Norton 1/4 mile sprint my std RS6 was neck and neck with matey in his manual 996T until his gearbox blew up!

the RS did a further 15 or so runs, a 171 down the runway without a glitch. best time of RS6 was 13.45. 996T was in the 12.6's I think so yes it is quicker!

Interesting topic as I was passing a Porsche showroom the other day and was offered a very good deal on a 911 Turbo (997). The dealer was saying business was "slow" and would be open to a serious offer  .

Having spoken to a couple of 911 owners they are contemplating moving to the new GTR at the end of next year. As yet I have not met anyone contemplating buying a new RS6. It looks like the credit crunch combined with the arrival of the GTR is going to throw up some very good deals....if you have the cash!

Good move, 996 TT - FANTASTIC CAR!!! Didnt constantly get voted best allround super car for no reason, if you can cope with the luggage space of a 10 pack of fags and no kids, then it should be a criminal offence not to own one once in your life! Reasonable service costs, 25-30mpg etc etc. Very affordable now as well.

Hi RSVI

speedo was reading 171 - you can prob deduct 10% for inaccuracy but I didn't think these were limited?? is this true?

Running costs and servicing are reasonable???? I would have thought that Porsche charged a fortune.

How are the costs compared to that of the RS6?

Cheaper - it's a lighter car so it can be easier on the brakes, I paid £1040 for RS6 discs and pads, and £770 for 996 turbo discs and pads. Servicing is menu pricing, so you don't even need to call around to get the best price, unlike Audi dealers who can vary by as much as 100% from each other.

I am very disappointed by some of the guys in the porsche service department though - it's difficult to strike up a rapport with them, one guy in particular looks at me like I'm something he stood in. Jealousy is hard to hide, but so is the purple mk2 mondeo he drives home in every day.

LOL, purple mondeo!!

I'm surprised the 911 is actually cheaper to run. It's a car I eventually want, but the insurance wouldn't touch me because of my age. I'll have one eventually but I've just got another new car so I'm gonna wait!
