I agree Contigo - B5 is now creeping towards classic status already( if I could afford it Id have kept bothContigo wrote:Exactly, it's the second gen of the RS4 and undoubtedly won't be a classic like the original B5 Avant. Plus the numbers of B5's makes them even more exclusive than the more mass produced, three model B7 (Saloon,Avant and Cab)
I also think the classic Quattro and Forced induction combination which Audi are World famous for keeps the B5 more in the "classic" category as the V8 whilst great as it is, it's too new and too temporary a solution. I can see a complete turnaround on the large engined fast Audi's in the future in favour for the smaller engined forced indution units.

The E Type Jag was the same in the late 60's early 70's, you couldn't give them away! And look at them now and Early S1 in mint condition will fetch 50k+.
You are right on the numbers thing but I think the lower the numbers made the quicker they become a classic, it's taken probaly 30-40 years for the E-Typre to become classic and that's based on the fact that there aren't too many good examples around now, whereas the B5 is very limited in it's UK run and it's fast becoming a classic, just like RS2 has done.
Anyway who cares, let's just enjoy them whilst we can and really make the most of them until Brown and his Cronies try to tax us off the planet.

Absolutely agree too.Contigo wrote:Exactly, it's the second gen of the RS4 and undoubtedly won't be a classic like the original B5 Avant. Plus the numbers of B5's makes them even more exclusive than the more mass produced, three model B7 (Saloon,Avant and Cab)

However, the fact that (currently) the B7 is the ONLY non-forced induction RS model could be something in its favour in becoming a classic...?
Particularly if they do return to forced induction for future models (as they look to be doing), this would make it unique.

I didn't mean that it looks too much like an A4 at the moment, I love the looks otherwsie I wouldn't have one! But it looks too much like a 'normal' car to be a classic performance car IMO - I can't really see the regular A4 becoming a classic?! As has been said, the others are all classics in terms of design or innovation or through motorsport.PetrolDave wrote:Really?Thorny wrote:it also looks too much like a regular A4
In the first 6 months of ownership at least one occupant in most cars that I passed or passed me could be seen to look and point, and lip reading usually revealed something like "Look, Dad/Mum/brother/friend, an RS4!"
The differences are subtle and not "in your face" but visible enough for most people to see at a glance.
