Subframe bushes

Anyone replaced these. The car is handling sublimely at present. Except when loaded tyravelling from Edinburgh to Weser Ross last weekend. Mixed roads M90 A9 A835 (amazing to Poolewe). It 'crashed' over exposed road seams etc.

Dampers, front suspension arms, front balljoints all replaced. Planned to do subframe bushes and rear suspension last year but MRC Doug felt OK

Is this the sign to replace ??

When did you last renew your topmounts? In my experience they can go very quickly particularly on bad roads. Mine had one renewed this year which was only two years old.

At MRC on Monday, on my test run with Doug, I asked about the front suspension clonking and he said they all do it and suggested that top mounts become an annual service item. I had mine done for the MoT last August, maybe 10,000 miles ago.

Mine has no 'clonking'

and felt fine today on the poor roads with luggage

That's interesting. Mine has always had something it wants to complain about at the front. It was a lot better after the last MoT but is clonky again now at low speed over traffic enraging bumps and when starting to reverse, as if it's taking up a wee bit of slack.

It handles fine, but I must say I'm not as corner happy in it as I was with my non-turbo coupe quattro which was Scalextric in comparison to the RS2.

MRC said all RS2s clonk and Audi couldn't find anything other than the top mounts.

Oh, no! Here we go again.

Well to help you. I have replaced topmounts twice in 5 years, front balljoints, dampers, front suspension arms & ARB. Mine 'clonked' over bumps when I got it. That went with new dampers (OEM leaking) & topmounts.

Hmm just be careful with Konis - I had horrendous problems with trying to get rear konis to fit - eventually gave up and fitted OEM rear ones. In retrospect I would advise sticking with OEM dampers front and rear.

I do however agree with MRC comments about top mounts becoming almost yearly items.

It's a whole different topic, I know, but I wanted a standard, well kept RS2 and having found it I've tried to keep it standard. Apart from losing the "Recaro" logo when I had the seat centres re-upholstered, and a couple of weeks ago having an S3 DV fitted, it remains standard. Oh, and non-original tyres, of course.

With so few RS2s, I wonder if the lads who do the whizzo mods in the hope of making a good car better are actually damaging their investment.

Unfortunately an RS2 will probably never be an investment that appreciates in value like some other more exotic cars. It will certainly not depreciate as fast as some cars and mine now is probably still worth ~37% of what I paid for the car new in 1995 which is pretty good but that does not take into account the running costs.

Stick with OEM dampers. Best OEM suspension for road use audi managed. I was lucky with the konis. Bought them from QST & fitted by the 'old' AMD outfit that knew the RS2 (two guys ran them at that stage). Thus I got the right koni dampers and had them set up by the right guys. Pre MRC back then. Doug still in his S2 over the water in Fife.

Not if you keep the oe stuff, ready to go back on if that's what the new owner wants

I've got a few whizzo bits, but I've kept the oe stuff just in case.
