Reason i didn't buy from Nick J is the trade in value of an RS4 B5 is £16.5k in mint condition. My S3 was low mileage and FASH and mark free original paint but couldn't get over book for it trade in. So figured if i bought from NJ i'd make a bigger loss couple of years down the line than buying the car i did from a BMW main dealer with 12months warranty. The money i saved i'm spending on getting the car back to near as new condition.

Getting more than book on any car is a little hopefull, and saying any mint rs4 has a trade value of 16.5k seems a broad statement to make given they dont even book,i dont envy anyone trying to sift through whats left of b5 rs4s trying to find a good one,it was hard enough over 3 years ago and some of the recent threads on here suggest there is some real crap out there

You can always argue the toss with an insurance company if you can show them adverts for similar cars going for a lot more money - specialists' web sites are ideal for this.

Just sold my Denim Blue 71k mile 2000/X (Hi-tech interior, no-nav) for £19100 to a friend of a friend (who also owns an RS4) which shows you get what you pay for - there is nothing to do on that car and it's all original paint apart from bumpers and 1 quarter panel. Just come back from 1500 miles to Bavaria and back with no VAG COM faults and barely any oil used. New owner who is in the motor trade had seen some of the cheaper ones for sale and had almost given up on finding a good RS4 and was considering an Impreza P1 as a stop gap but found they weren't an easy purchase either.
So if your car is mint with not much to do it's worth a lot more than the typical example.
(have left reg in pic as it's no longer on the car)

why?
My business requires as much capital as possible to fight the economic slow down and keep growing so if I want that R8 in 3 years the RS4 has go to go now and when it was so easy to sell I couldn't really say no.

Nice pic mate, shame you had to sell but there's plenty more motors out there that will suit you and hope you get the R8 as they are awesome to drive.

Anyway I agree with you, yours was mint and well maintained and mine is too at only 54k miles. Will keep it for a few more years yet and keep the miles of it too to keep the resale up. Who knows maybe keep it for as a show car for eons as they ain't going to make cars like this for much longer with the way fuel prices are going.

It seems were were right, there are shed loads of crap Rs's out there sadly and you need to pay decent money to get a decent one or you'll get a lemon.
