Call this badge snobbery but just couldnt pay that much for a car that looks like a Pulsar inside.

It is nice to see them set the bench mark high, so whats Germany going to come back with???

Yes I would pay RS4 for one in black (which disguises the ugly nose). Do not need quite as much space now so as long as the boot is reasonable and you can get a baby seat in the back I would have considered one.

Now it would cost me £15k to swap so not so interested and the way 911 prices are falling a nice C2S with PSE may be the next move instead

I don't think the Skyline ever suffered from the "Nissan" badge.

I don't think the new GTR will either.

In the realm of performance vehicles, everyone knows what a car with the "GTR/V-Spec" tag can do.

My question is that if you've missed the boat with an early order and you've now got to wait until at least mid-2010 for delivery you might just be tempted to sit on your hands and wait for the new RS4 spec to firm itself up and then make your decision...

There is no doubt in my mind that Nissan have raised the bar and the Germans will now have to raise their game in terms of "performance per £". In a collapsing economy, even if you can afford such cars, you gotta be asking why I should pay £100K for such performance when I can get it for half the price down the road? Even more so if you accept that much of this performance will only be exploited on the track whereupon the gizmos the GTR comes equipped with are bound to excite the enthusiast.

The 997TT is looking ridiculously priced against this vehicle...and I've always been a huge fan of Porsche.

I mean what has it got going for it now except the Porsche badge/heritage and possible a few mph right at the top-end?

Hit the nail on the head on all accounts. Couldn't have put it better myself. And I'm also a Porsche fan at heart!

That's already been confirmed by Audi, the engine of the next RS4 is still teh subject of rumours - NA V8, supercharged V6, twin-charged (turbo & super) V6 are all still being rumoured.

ChuckUK - Yes I would have bought the RS4 if it was made by Skoda, in fact if Skoda brought out a decent fast 4wd. Yes I would consider changing. Cheap as chips and lets face it, an A4/Passat wearing different clothes.

On the Nissan thing, I just can't escape that it would appear to have been built as if it is supposed to be the car that was the best all rounder on Grant Turismo....and it looks like a boy racer car, no stealth and class whatsoever. Unless they restrict build numbers, it will become another skyline/GTi-R. A wonderful car that is full of gizmos that everyone wants but no-one needs. Dare I say that it does what it says on the tin..? Therefore no soul or character - IMO.

Let me put it another way:
The Night club owner has the RS4
The Night club manager has the BMW 640 Cab
The head bouncer has the GTR.

If I took the GTR home I would be blown away by the performance, when I took the Mrs out she would not give a stuff about any of the gizmo's and if I really started to get into showing her things like the G-Force meter etc, would she be impressed or would she be admiring the geezer in the RS4 singing away to Tom Jones...?

TG tested one and I have yet to watch last weeks, none of the guys on there would buy one. Nuff said.

Who cares what popele think ?

The GTR is just an awsome peice of machinery and should be appreciated.

I "bounced" for 6 years so maybe my inclination towards the GTR is understandable....

Its a cultural thing...the Japanese build cars that look different to the Germans. It makes the world an interesting place.

What astonished me though, was the drag coefficient of the GTR. Inspite of looking like a sculpted brick, its down at 0.27 which is substantially lower than the RS4.

That car is not only clever on the inside its clever on the outside too.

Like johny1980 says, its got to be appreciated.

Do I need it?

No. But then I don't need a RS4 either.

Either way, its good for the enthusiast because it has raised the bar.

Out of interest, the most expensive R34 on Pistonheads is still £50K. Albeit its had a boatload of mods but those Skylines, molested or not, still fetch good money. There is a 2002 standard car for £44K. My RS4 wouldn't even fetch £44K now let alone in 2013!

That's exactly what I was thinking after reading Tartan's post. The common misconception is that just because it is Japanese, it will depreciate badly. The R34 skylines are holding their values very well indeed for quite "old" cars now...even in import form! Standard UK examples are still very expensive and limited editions such as V-spec II Nurs still go for £50k+. The NSX is a similar story...very strong residuals.

The GT-R UK numbers are 400 a year and considering that if you ordered one now, you won't get it until the end of 2010, at least the first 2 years will see extremely strong residuals.

Hello from an old member - still some familiar names!

Having got out of silly cars for a while, (997tt to a Defender is quite a move, but the right one) It's time to have a peek at what could be around in 2010. I think every man and his dog has at least looked at the GT-R and I've had a sniff with the dealer and am being quoted Q2 2010, which would be fine. Never hankered for Japanese cars, but somehow this thing has to be owned at some point before the oil runs out. But the cars I miss most have been my B5 RS4 and RS6+, and therefore a B8 RS4 has to be looked at. The think the A5 styling is inspired and a gorgeous looking car, so RS5 is an interesting proposition too, (Especially if it's forced) however I've always been in the "an RS is Avant and always should be" camp....

C6 RS6 is just not special enough for me as others have said. Should never have sold the 6+... Anyone have definitive dates for B8, and presume it's N/A?

I'd love to order one, but can't bring myself to order a car I haven't driven, plus I have this horrible feeling thats its very very quick but with no sense of involvement or even a long term pride in what I've bought
I personally would like to see where the 997 turbos are price wise when the GTR comes out. Hey even Gallardo's are getting down there now.then at least i'd feel at home what with the steering wheel being the same as the RS4's
