SMOKING DRIVER SIDE CAT AFTER HARD RUN

Post by safsrs6 » Sun Jul 20, 2008 3:11 am

hi guys, quick question 2day i drove my rs realy hard pushed it not to the limit but drove it hard, after i parked up noticed a bit of smoking thot it was from exhust but when looked carefully noticed it comming from under car, when me and me mate looked underneath the smoke was comming from the driver side cat and it was glowing red hot! the passenger side was fine no smokin and didint seem glowing red like the driver side, after bout 10 min after it cooled down it was fine no smok. the smoke it self wasnt thick it was light smoke.. could it be blocked cat? as the smoke was coming from the joint which joins engine/turbo to cat! any advice would be appreciatd tnx

The cats over heating !!! It could be blocked or it's over fueling on that bank .

i had it on vag com few weeks ago and it was showing a random misfire on i think was bank 2 could that be tha cause of it? car was pulling fine as it should well iv only had it the car 5 months and since iv had it it cam up with that fault took it back 4 warnty work and they said they replaced the ignition coil pack but far as i no ther was to banks which had random misfires one no long shows (must be the one they replaced) but ones still ther had a work with them and cars going in again in 10 days, could the random missfire put car in safe mode? an d ristrick power? it also shows xhust gas temp sensor as short o faulty!

If it's a AUDI warranty tell them about the cat. If the egt's not working if will restrict power . g

something is not correct as both the cats should be the same ( both glowing hot or not ) But you do also know that you have to let the car cool down before parking up dont you? Like a 2 mile slow drive after giving it some welly. Other wise you will end up killing turbos etc!

i was thinking about a turbo timer for mine but these cars are not easy to fit one on. To do it you need to get round the chip in the ignition . it is possible to do but leaves your car easy to steal after. Just need to give it a good cool down run.
