VREDESTEIN Ultrac Sessanta

Hi Guys,
I know a lot of you are now running the Goodyear F1's at 275 30 19 but I did fancy going up a size so was trying to find them in the standard size. After a few weeks of trying I gave up. They seemed impossible to track down Elitedirect came the closest at finding three of them, so really hard to get hold of, not many (if any) in the country. I even contacted Goodyear who told me they will be shipping more in this size to the UK in July to meet back orders for August. So if you want these you shouldn't have a problem in a few weeks time I guess.

Too late for me though becausel I don't know what anyone else has found but my RS4 Avant didn't seem to like to slow down with about 4mm on the fronts and 3mm on the rears Michelin Pilot Sport 2's.

So I returned to and re-read the last Evo tyre test and the tyres which came second were VREDESTEIN Ultrac Sessanta with some really positive comments. So I set out in search of these and wow cheap or what £152 from Elitedirect delivered!

I have just had these fitted and balanced (had the wheels referbed at the same time although not a great job PM and I'll tell you where not to go). I have now done about 200miles on them and they are great, the car is fantastic in the wet you would swear the road was dry! (ok maybe not). Now I am comparing to worn tyres but these seem impressive and they are so much quieter than the Michelins, a lot less road rumble.

I will keep you posted about wear rate for those who are interested, but so far so good and at the price you can hardly complain :-) PS2 were coming in at almost double the price!

These came a very close 2nd when I got my F1's, I even tried to get a GB on them here but most wanted PS2's so it never got off the ground. Given the price of the F1's is rising by the day I will be going for a set or Verdesteins next.

I've previously run Verdestein Ultrac's on an STI and found them to be brillant, especially in the wet as you have noted.

More pics

Dumb question but does anyone know how to reduce image file size. I really had problems getting these small enough to get under the size limit 512kb?

I have some of the car but can not get them much below 600kb.

Cheers

A question for Krode and others running 275/30's, what pressures are you running front and rear? I have but about 200 miles on my F1's and first thing they feel terrible with rear vibration but after the car has warmed up they are excellent. Running 38PSi all round. Is that right?

I am running the very same tyre and 38PSI is correct IMO. I have noticed that the optimum for grip, certainly on track use, is 42PSI.

So you when warm you are runiing higher psi which is why it feels better.

I remember the old F1 GSD3's being sensitive to pressures and feeling like flats first thing in the morning, so the sensation was not concerning to me. Thought 36 might be too little, just wondered about 39 on the front because of the extra weight but I'll have a toy around with pressures next weekend.

Sorry, if you check my post I didn't upgrade to the 275's like some I decided to stick with the stock size and couldn't get a hold of the GY F1s so bought these instead.

I run standard pressures.

Anyone interested these tyres are great in the wet. Really really grip. Road rumble is a lot less that the PS2s. Seem to have more feel than the PS2s I have more idea what's going on at the front.

Sorry Krode, for the side on pic it looks like they are 275's because you look like you actually have significant wheel rim protection on them which I never had on my COnti SC3's.

Funny because for some reason Ultracs Sessantas in 275 were £150 so similar to what you paid, where as difference in most other tyre brands between 255 and 275 is between £20 and £50 per tyre.

Wierd.
