how to get vagcom

i have just treated my self to a new laptop and i want to get vagcom installed how do you do this ? i have a b5 rs4 so what program do i install and what type of leads do i need .

Hi lyncy,

Glad you've sorted yourself out a lap-top. I'd go for a genuine lead from Ross-Tech if I were you. Assuming that your lap-top has a USB port, then I'd go for the Key USB lead at $249:

Once you've got it you just need to plug it in and download the software from here:

and you're in business.

Second that I've seen so many cases where people have bought a cheap lead off eBay which has:
a) broken fairly quickly, or failed to install the correct drivers; and
b) restricts the version of VAG-COM you can run to a very old version that limits what you can do (can't see all controllers and can't modify all adaptation channels).

The eBay route might seem attractive, but it will almost certainly be more stressful and could well be a waste of money. Bite the bullet and buy the "real deal".
