You can't put full postcode into Sat Nav either ?
You can't put full postcode into Sat Nav either ?
Mentioned this to dealer when my car was in, he said EVERYONE asks this question.
ANSWER. Put full postcode in, yes we all know it doesn't accept it but, according to my Audi service advisor, nearer your chosen destination the system will ask you for your chosen road/hotel whatever and direct you there !
Will someone doing a long distance trip in the next few days, try this out and let us know ?

RE: You can
Complete Bull. I've been moaning about the Sat Nav unit for ages. My £200 Tom Tom is better, as was the Sat Nav in my old Range Rover Sport.
I use the Sat Nav everyday and it doesn't get any better with use I'm afraid.

RE: You can
Hey, look at it this way, not even the brand new RS6 has full postcode matching.
I mean, how difficult can it be?

RE: You can
My Garmin in my van does!!! but it was only £150 ish! I guess the RS6 has the MMI the same as my wife's Q7, good sat nav but the post code is annoying. Has anyone come across an OEM sat nav with full post code search?

RE: You can
Where abouts in the RS4 do people position their sat navs ?
Re: RE: You can
Yes the Land Rover one's do. I suspect the jag's one do too - as they share a lot of bits!SimonFV8 wrote:My Garmin in my van does!!! but it was only £150 ish! Great nice one Audi!!! So not only do we get cr@p suspension our sat navs (that we have had to pay a premium for) are sub standard as well!!! Joy!PetrolDave wrote:Lexus's do... basically ALL the premium brands (and others) except Audi do.
After all what should we expect for a car that was 50k+ !!!!!

TBH I wish all satnavs only accepted the first bit of the post code! Put my full post code (which covers a two mile long road) into a sat nav and it'll take you very precisely to a house about a mile up the road from mine. The number of times deliveries have been returned to the depot because the driver couldn't find our house ...
If they'd actually looked for our house based on the address rather than simply blindly following their sat navs they'd find us every time!

German postcode system is 5 numbers - the technology is based on this.
If your time is so valuable you can't spend 30 seconds entering the first couple of letters of a road name then perhaps you should consider paying someone else to drive it for you.
I'll take the job for 30k+benefits

Had the same thing happen to us too - the sat nav location for our house is 200 metres away from where it actually is. More than one delivery driver has given up just because he could not see our number when stopped at the location his sat nav sent him to!drcarrera wrote:TBH I wish all satnavs only accepted the first bit of the post code! I ALWAYS use the full address for a destination even when using my TomTom (when I'm in another car).
Like any other technology if the (human entered) database is wrong then the technology is perceived to have failed - it hasn't, it's the carelessness of a human somewhere along the line.
RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: You can
The point is that to get full postcode matching we have to spend £100 on a TomTom when we have just spent £80k on a new RS6 (£50k RS4 etc), and then have to put up with yet another device sitting on the dash. (It's such a hard life!
)
I find postcode matching will get me exactly where I need to be 95% of the time, the rest I use my noggin and look for the road & house number/name.

(OK I'm a bit biased having written several address searching systems...)
But as has been said, they are only as good as the data that has been entered.

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: You can
I think our point is that full postcode matching often gets you somewhere different to where you want to be - your 95% accuracy figure doesn't match the experience of me and drcarrera.
I'd put the figure at about 25% (of four family addresses full postcode entry only gets you to the correct location at one of them).
So not having full postcode entry isn't a big deal to us.
