Calling all Goodwood FOS'ers

Post by pippyrips » Thu May 15, 2008 10:40 pm

After promising myself for years I will definitely be going to the FOS this July. I will probably do the Friday & Saturday and am in the process of deciding whether to get a hotel nearby or camp using the new camp site facilities.

How good are the grandstands and which are the best? Are they the only choice for getting a good view or can the same be obtained with the general admission tickets?

I was thinking of doing one day on each, the Friday probably being the general admin due to travel time etc.

Has any got any useful tips/advice and finally is anyone else going down? We could all meet up and tell stories about c*ap Audi customer service around the camp fire :beerchug:

Loads of info on here:

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/forum.asp?h=0&f=172

I go every year but am splashing out on a grandstand seat for the first time this year - otherwise difficult to see what's going on on track. The red arrows/off road course/rallying you can see by walking a bit.

Good tip would be to go with something with 4wd after last year... Which i guess is covered!

You'll be lucky to pick up grandstand tickets at this late stage! We go every year and always opt for Grandstand seats. We wander around a lot but the grandstands are great places to sit and relax to watch the action..or to get out of the rain or blistering sun. Molecomb corner is pretty good - almost guaranteed that a Jag will over-cook it and hit the straw bales!

You'll also be lucky to find accomodation within 30 odd miles of the place this late in the day too...but you may be lucky with Brighton!
No idea about the camping facilities though.

Paul...which stand are you in? We're in park Grandstand opposite the house.

Friday is a brill day to go, fewer people there. I'm sure you'll enjoy the day. I know I enjoyed my first visit so much that I've been every year for the full three days ever since. I know, I'm sad.

TBH i can't recall, i just know it had the word Grandstand in the title, although startline rings a bell.

Really looking forward to going. As practice is non mandatory on the Friday, do all the big guns still do the hill climb runs? This was my only worry, but think going the quietest day makes sense.

The majority of them do the two runs each day, so you can split your day between sitting in the stand and wandering around the paddocks. Startline is a nice place to be as you get all the tyre spinning/squeeling etc, although a lot of drivers don't do a timed run (thay only do a demonstration run) and they tend to do "starts" at various points along the track...so more people can witness the spectacle.

Some drivers mess up on their first run so don't appear later on (for some reason Jaguars are quite good at fouling up on Molecomb bend and hitting the straw bales).

The good thing about the Friday Grandstand ticket is that you can actually sit in any Grandstand (unless they've chnaged it this year) so you can wander about!

Paul

Then, of course, you've got the rally stage to visit as well as the main hillclimb event!

Thoroughly enjoyed myself.

Veyron stole the show on the hillclimb IMHO.

KTM X-bow....thoroughly impressed by the whole package although it needs more than 200hp to compete with the Atom especially at £45K.

The Q7 V12 Tdi was on show. Monster ceramic front brakes.

Didn't manage to make it to the Rally stages on my crutches...

Did anyone else do the Audi driving experience at the Goodwood circuit. Two hours track time with instructor, driving S3, S5, S6, S8 and TT cars, and then 3 professional laps with the instructor driving in R8 or RS6. I had laps in R8, might be same engine but by god it quick. Thought I was a reasonable driver, but opened my eyes how much G that thing can pull on corners. Got me hooked in signing a Silverstone experience day.
