It seems to be related to the Google Links. I'm using Firefox with NoScript which blocks the ads; previously you could minimise the ads, but since the upgrade the button minimise button disappeared. The challenge is to find a way to stop the problem for all and still keep the ads that bring in good revenue.

I think the short term solution is to find a way to reinstate the minimise icon..... I'll research.

Any more thoughts or solutions? I see on the other thread you advise "no scripts" what is that?

No Script - http://noscript.net/

Or another potential option could be to edit your hosts file and add googlesyndication.com in the same line after localhost.

Warning - What you are doing here is beyond everyday PC usage.... :)

Go to Start
Then Run
Type this %windir%\system32\notepad.exe "C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts"
Click OK

You'll get this:
# Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

127.0.0.1 localhost
Change the last line to:
127.0.0.1 localhost googlesyndication.com
Close and Save. If you have your web browser open, you will need to close it (all of them) and re-open. If you are using a proxy (corporate environment) this probably will not work (Download Firefox and install the No Script add-on).

What you are basically telling your PC is that the web server for googlesyndication.com is on your PC, which obviously it is not so it will not load the ads.

The implications are minimal, but I offer no warranty.
Firefox offers a better level of protection and will deliver better results in a corporate environment.

Correct me if I am wrong but it seems to me like we are being asked to change our pc settings or use a different web explorer because you cant fix a bug.

behave phil. Firefox 2 has been proven to be no more secure than IE 7. They do update it faster so holes are fixed quicker. It is more usable.

In a corporate environment protection should never be left to the end user. Proxies, Firewalls, Managed AV services are all employed by admins like yours truly to ensure al the user has to do is get the URL right.

to suggest that a user in a corporate environment should be using firefox is folly. is there a GPO for firefox? can I control what the user can do so that they can't break their app?? No, which is why firefox isnt a corporate standard browser let alone one which can deliver better results.

doesnt sound like a bug, sounds like a conflict between certain settings. either accept the workaround or give the admin time to fix it. remember you don't pay for your membership and admin has a job as well as this site (and probably a family and other hobbies too...)
