Good I'm glad we finally have a date

Tuesday 2nd December (Will confirm with Audi)

I went for this date as I think it more attractive to people who are not our 'regular' track day crowd.

Never having been on a trackday I am sorely tempted to come to the RS246 day but I wonder if you guys would be kind enough to answer some questions;
How many cars on the track?
Will there be instruction?
How will my brakes and tyres be affected?
Is £350 the right price for insurance (with a £7000 excess!! )
What is the likelihood of me living to regret it?
What is the likelihood of me not living to regret it?
Any other tips would be greatly appreciated by this total novice in these matters

Martian, don't be such a big girl's blouse!! Just get yourself along, have a few passenger rides, and then have a go in your car if you want.

How many cars on the track? As many as is safe.
Will there be instruction? Maybe someone special
How will my brakes and tyres be affected? You'll find out if they are any good!!
Is £350 the right price for insurance (with a £7000 excess!! ) - Wouldn't know. Have never had insurance and done lots of track days.
What is the likelihood of me living to regret it? Depends how you drive.
What is the likelihood of me not living to regret it? Depends on how well the car is built!!

Just get yourself along, you'll love it.

Martian, I agree with PhilT, if you havent done a track day before and you are interested in doing one, this day would be your best bet. We are all enthusiasts and most of us know each other which makes for a safe and courteous days driving - a perfect introduction for a novice track driver (except maybe the weather at this time of the year!)

Your brakes and tyres should be fine, obviously perhaps they will be a bit more worn out than if you had popped down to Sainsburys for a loaf of bread! I managed three track days and 15000 miles on my last set of tyres.

Re insurance, who is that with? CCC? One off track day insurance is pretty steep anyhow, about £200-£250 for the S3, with Goodwood and Castle Coombe normally more expensive but I guess for a RS6 it will be a bit more pricey.

Personally I am always insured on the track but luckily it is through my normal policy so quite a bit cheaper

Oulton is one of the largest tracks in the country and the maximum number of cars is, IIRC, 32.

UNless this is the busiest track day ever then I doubt there will be more than 10-15 on track at a time.

The biggest risk you have is YOU. If you drive within yourself then there's no problem.

first timers need not be worried.
All the regulars had to do their first one sometime - and this is the perfect opportunity for others to do it with like-minded freinds.
We are all enthusiasts and nobody wants to get hurt or have damage to their 'baby'. Everyone will respect everybody else.
As Scotty says, your biggest enemy is yourself (and that little devil on your shoulder ). Just take care.

I agree with everyone elses comments, I was sweating my first time but once you have been out for a few hours, subject to brakes hoding out you get hooked

I personally have only ben a few times but it is just awesome to be drivng around a race track in your own car - WOW

As for worrying if people want to overtake or you are going too slow or are you in anyones way, feck 'em, you are there to drive your car, if you want to drive around at 30mph thats fine with me ( and I assume all the others) as long as you follow any safety rules then everyone is going to have a great day

My first track day was at Brands Hatch courtesy of Audi, you start off first thing going around certain bends at say 30mph, after a while your confidence gains and you can get around at say 45, then you either go out with someone else or an instructor and you find if you push it you cna get around at 60mph. How can you ever push your car on the road to this extent, you cant I have tried!!!!

Just take your time at your own pace and try and improve, if you are not happy dont push it too hard, go out with some of the other owners and see how they do it

It is a great learning experience for you and the car

ENJOY IT

We all will be
