Has this car got Bose?

Hi all,

I'm close to buying a 2002 S3. One thing is confusing me though. All the cars I have looked at with Bose have 'BOSE' printed on the door speakers in the front. The car I want to but doesn't! When you turn on the Radio it does say BOSE on the display.

I hope this is just a trim problem on the speakers. The car is an import but has all the UK spec items fitted. Has anyone seen this before?

Whilst on the radio subject, the car has the standard chorus radio fitted with CD in the boot. I am thinking of changing it for a Symphony single CD. Is this a straighforward swap?

Yes, people have reported this before, not all cars have BOSE logos on the speaker covers.

If it does have BOSE it should say BOSE when you switch on the headunit (which it does as you have said). BOSE also has a subwoofer and amp in the rear side pockets of the boot.

Not sure about swapping in the Symphony system though

PS - if the car is an import (mine is too), check whether it has the passenger airbag switch in the glove compartment - if its full UK spec it should have this too - just one of the smaller things that could of been overlooked

Thanks for the quick reply. The car has the sub unit in the boot as well as 'BOSE' on the dispay so it must be the real thing. Ive also just asked the owner about the airbag switch which he has confirmed is fitted. Looks like I might an S3 owner soon!

On a more adventurous note can Sat Nav Plus be retrofitted without too much difficulty and does it feature TMC (Traffic Message Channel) for updates on Jams, Accidents etc?)

If it's any help mine also has a BOSE factory sticker by the CD changer
