Warranty confusion...

Post by MalcolmSu » Thu May 22, 2008 8:36 pm

I bought my RS6 at the end of Feb. One of the criteria in looking for it was some remaining warranty cover. The car was 4 years old on 15 April and I'd been given paperwork from the previous owner that showed it had warranty cover until April 2009 with a Listers Group Assist policy which I believe is administered by Car Care Plan.

Despite numerous phone calls and a letter to both Listers and CCP I have yet to receive any written conformation that the warranty has been transfered over to me. However I do know that the cheque to cover the transfer admin fee was cashed on 15 March and CCP did confirm on the phone to me that they had my car covered - I'd changed the reg to my personal plate and it's that car they have on their records.

Having read of others on here having difficulties with CCP I guess I wasn't too bothered - albeit I've nothing to say what cover I have.

Anyway, this week I got a letter from the Service Department at Maidstone Audi - I live in Falkirk and have only ever used Stirling Audi!

I'd had previous mail from Maidstone; showroom invites, etc but never thought anything about it. I'm beginning to think maybe the car was bought new originally from Maidstone? Is there anyway to find out?

Back to the letter - it was advising me that my Audi Warranty is about to expire. I'm assuming this is different from the Listers warranty?

Could my car be covered by two warranties?!

I phoned Maidstone who tried to sell me an Audi warranty for £1,200 if I do less than 15k miles pa or for £1,576 for unlimited mileage.

If I have Listers cover until April next year why should I be bothered looking into Audi cover I hear you ask?

I'm just interested in the differences between the Listers and the Audi warranty. Also I'm assuming that if I didn't take the Audi warranty out now it wouldn't be an option in April '09? I could only extend the Listers policy then or look to some of the 3rd party warranties.

Look forward to your advice. :D

The genuine Audi warranty (via Mondial) is a pretty good bullet proof warranty - hence the asking price! Looks as though there could be two warranties on the car - best get that sorted so you only have one as they may argue over who will pay if anything goes wrong! I wouldn't mention to either Audi/Mondial or CCP about the (possible) existence of the other policy. I would have assumed that Listers would use the Audi/Mondial policy myself.

Your owners hand book etc should disclose who the supplying dealer was.
