How to find current owner?

Hi all

Sold my RS4 last year but for various reasons left the private plate on it although have a signed undertaking that it remains mine. I want to transfer this now but seems the purhaser has either moved or is possibly now ignoring me as phone isn't answered either.

I'm sure i've read somewhere that you can get the address if you have a genuine reason. Any pointers?

Who has signed the undertaking? If it's not under retention through the DVLA than it doesn't sound like you have much hope. If you think you have a contract with the new owner regarding ownership then it's unlikely the DVLA will divulge the address, particularly as it's a civil issue. IMHO of course.

think you may have left it a bit late now!
dont you still have the V5 bit you retain to prove you have sold the vehicle?

do a car search on dvla.co.uk
put in the car reg details and see what comes up in the roadtax section,worth a try?

lol, left it just a bit long. Haven't really found a new toy yet.

I looked into this a few cars ago - I was told by DVLA that it doesn't really matter what's been 'signed', but if the plate isn't transferred (put on retention/another vehicle) while its still in your ownership, you're effectively giving up your rights to the reg if it's left on the car once sold.

I'm sure to can write to dvla with a cheque for a few pounds and they will provide the info . I'll make a call tomorrow .

ive heard the same but it goes against the public data act or whatever its called and the dvla being a govt entity i cant see them going against the law.

Does an HPI check on the car bring up current owners details? - I know it'll cost, but just an idea

It states clearly on the registration transfer form that if you sell the car before the number has been transfered or put on retention you may loose the right to the number. Also as the vehicle is no longer registered in your name i think you may have lost it allredy unless you can find who you sold it to and they keep to their word.
You are allready probably aware that you never own the number only the right to it.

You say you have reason to believe your car was hit by a car in a carpark with the reg of the RS4.
You need to know the owners details so you can make contact and resolve the dispute.
They will then provide you with the relevant

Thanks guys, not too worried about this. My "perfect" plate is in the DVLA auction next week. Not sure Mrs will be too keen though as reserve is 3k......

Bit of a long shot - but try Googling the registration plate (with and without spaces) - the plate may appear on another forum somewhere.
