I had to replace an oil cooler pipe on mine a few months back due to corrosion around the union - pretty common I think.

I would agree with all the comments - let Doug check the engine over - he'll be able to fix you up for a lot lot less than 18k! For that money you can have a 700bhp engine rebuild!!!!!!!

Don't listen to the Stealers. Get an opinion from a good independent eg MRC, Grizz etc

She'll soon be back on the road

If you shut if off as soon as the light came on there is a very good chance it's fine.

If its only 46k miles it should be factory warrantied IMO (If it needs to be changed). Try to contact some Audi boss. Is's not acceptable that engine should be changed after 50k miles. If they deny the warranty talk to some consumer office for help. Audi does not want to be listed on any kind of blacklist I would assume? I hope its fine though.

I have a spare rs4 engine but shipping would be a nightmare (1000miles?) + I haven't yet ridden with that engine so I can't be 100% sure its 100% ok (cams look fine and it turns freely plus was sold as fully OK though).

This is what I think , well if the pipe was so corroded why did they not spot it on the last service and advise a change ?
Does anyone know if an inspection is included in a service ? My last service would have been 40k miles , when they also changed the belts .

again many thanks for everyones suggestions.

And it seems you're not alone. Even my oilcooler pipes are rusted. they should recall all rs4s for inspection of that pipe.

With Audi's track record of customer service, you'd be hard pressed to get a recall on the cooler pipe!

I have finally had a reply from Audi Customer Services , they are not prepared to offer any contribution to the repair of my car . Even though it has full Audi Service History and would seem that their component failed causing this damage .
Not really a big surprise but very disappointing .
So hopefully I can get the car to Doug at MRC for an appraisal , get it fixed and back on the road .

I will keep those interested updated , meanwhile please check those oil hoses and connections .

£105 incl each from the stealers - couldn't wait for vagparts this time round

No, mine had to be cut off with one of them mini-angle grinders - it was seized good and proper. Bumper needs to come off to get access if it's seized.
