Yeah I know, I'd have gotten kicked out :P

Can anyone tell me what would give me the most gain for my quids?

I'll have the turbos done while its apart, and I read somewhere that fitting RS4 turbos gives an instant gain. I guess this would have a knock on effect to other components?

the chepest option is to

1. fix issues (while heads will be off you can put thick headgaskets in for slightly lower compression - if you think you will be going for 450bhp!)
2. rs4 clutch
3 ko4 turbos
4. ko4 lower intake pipes

you will have a 360bhp ish car with unstressed turbos.

if you want more power the list gets long.

Hi All,

Time for a quick update. Despite CPR Doug declared my poor old 138k engine DOA.

It's probably over a month now since Lucas started the search, and the good news is a replacement has come up and a deal has been struck. I drove up to Coventry and back yesterday just to hand a suspicious looking envelope stuffed full of cash to a scrappy named Wayne... who was clearly an S4 B5 fan, and even took me to see the engine sitting on a pallet!

A quick count and a handshake later, confirmed delivery to MRC should be Tuesday. I was also informed:
- it came from a car that had a rear end shunt
- it had only done about 60k
- it was very low mileage for the age
- the rest of the car has already gone so I cant prove any of this

But anyway, I'm sure it won't matter once Doug & Co have had a look at it. So at the moment we have new ko4s on the list, remap and obviously a new cam belt!!! Brakes are out due to the cost, so this will probably end up being a fairly modest upgrade.

Cheers all,
George.

I thought I'd give you all a little update. It took the best part of three months, an envelope full of notes and a further £7.5k worth of getting the engine in shape and with mods at MRC.

I've been blasting around at 400bhp for a month or so now, I've had the ding on the rear bumper fixed up and the whistling door realigned. I'm now looking for new wheels as it's not far off the same price as fixing my standard ones which all need a recon.

I'm going to do a quick trip to MRC hopefully in the next week or so just to check everything is still up to scratch, as I think something might be venting some of the power. Also, the darn air con is blasting hot air which I really don't want right now!

Anyway if anyone knows of some wheels going then let me know, I started a thread on a dealer I'm looking at but right now I'm still undecided on what I'm going to do.

Thanks everyone for all the info on this forum and thanks to the team at MRC as always :-)

Cheers, George.

Oh yeah and I changed my insurance company from the info on here as well, I went with Adrian Flux in the end and it was cheaper than my unmodded Norwich Union insurance.

Maybe a little :) Of course I never got my head under the bonnet, but I've been through a few of the threads laced with pics on this forum and picked up a few things.

Urgh... After 17 years working in I.T. I'm fed up to the back teeth of the constant changes and upgrades. I work with 100s of products nowadays and they nearly all change once or twice every six months. Of course it is nice to learn about something completely different, but I look forward to the day I don't have to keep up with all the new stuff.

Now that I will do!
