New RS4

Post by Bushy » Tue Jan 28, 2003 8:35 am

Has anyone any knowledge of what this may be?

Obviously the S4 is available shortly with the 4.2 normally aspirated engine, and there is a new TT with a 3.2 V6 and twin clutch direct shift gearbox

I guess either one could be turbo charged

Obviously genereal thinking is that the RS6 engine would be used but this would detract sales from that, do you think? So maybe the V6 would be the route

Any inside information?

This very true Indeed the last of the twin turbos was the RS6.

I heard it is going to be a 3.0TT, that would be logic to me:
The S4 has an more comfort-oriented V8, and a more agressive, sportive Twinturboed V6 for the RS4. Like this there would be a bigger distinction between both.
possibly it's only wishfull thinking
Anyway I heard as well that it was for 2004, so that gives me a year to win the lotery

According to your dealer!!!! What was it Ken? No more turbos, so you may as well let me tuck you into a new RS6? Or since the next RS4 aint going to have turbos you may as well let me tuck you into a new S4 NOW!

I didnt realise turbos made an engine less fuel efficient?

If true, then Porsche will no longer be offering a turbo? Yeah Right, the same day Ferrari stop offering twelve cylinders!

bmw is just beginning again with putting Turbo's in normal (= not diesel) engines.for example the new 5 will have a Twinturboed 3 Liter V6 (284 Kw)
how can this be???
My guess/wish ; the RS4 will have a 3.0TT

I think that's most likely
If it has the same hp/liter as the RS4, it will have 448 hp

My buddy on the inside reckons he's heardh a few rumours flying round the board of directors. The 3.2 V6 has been under experimental modification, and so far a reliable 350hp has come out of it with no turbos or anything, but obviously, that's pants in an RS4, especially the way the number of horses floating around is rapidly rising everywhere (Mercedes has gone ballistic with the AMG's!). There's also the option of the 4.2 V8 with a shade of camshaft and crankshaft tweaking making it a high revver. Then there's the twilight zone. VW's coming up with this 5 litre V10 which sounds VERY sexy, with about 500hp no worries, and then there's always the W12. I personally think the V10 would be a fantastic route to go down, but then there's also been talk of that in the enxt RS6 or even the RS8. Oooh an RS8. My 4.2 A8 was the best cruiser in the world, and it went a bit too, but an RS8 would blow my mind CLEAN AWAY! I could turn out to be completely wrong, but this is just what I've heard from (in the past) reliable resources.
