Thank you VAG--COM

Post by DuncS3 » Wed Oct 01, 2003 7:54 pm

following on from the S3 serviced thread, I had my first service on Monday. Tuesday evening Sita and I decided to perform some logging via VAG-COM on our cars. My car was showing the following error code, which couldnt be erased:

17695 - Boost Pressure Control Valve (N249): Open Circuit

No engine warning light but apparently this is not a good error to have and not one to be ignored. Anyway eventually traced to find that when my car was serviced the muppets at Audi must have disconnected one of the electrical connectors under the engine cover! (I had four new coil packs so they defenitely worked in that area and according to the service sheet, no error codes before the service)

Now reconnected and fault code gone, but how long would I of driven around with this disconnected if I didnt have VAG-COM and what damage would it of caused?

Just goes to prove that some Audi dealers are crap and VAG-COM really is an invaluable tool - if you own a car that costs 20K upwards, dont shirk on spending £100 on VAG-COM lads

I wonder if this could be causing the low mileage AVS figures? is the cable easy to locate?

its on my list dunc.

its the cost of the laptop im finding hard to cough up for just dont want to but a cheap one. would rather wait for money for a decent one.

as for that connector, the Audi dedicated tech that come to me on other S3 did same thing, just that he fault checked after , before he left, and saw it come up, and put it right. It has to be disconnected over CYL 3 and 4 for access.

how did you swing new coils? or do they do tham as a matter of course now?

Coil packs are being replaced readily by all the dealers now. ever since they have been issued with a bulletin allowing them to go ahead and replace as many as the dealer wants wothout prior authorisation from the big cheese.
If anyone hasnt had all four coil packs reaplaced by now id seriously get ur cars booked in with ur local and get them done before the freeze of winter time sets in and they fail to work one frosty morning.

DavidT - did anything happen to the VAG-COM group buy thread? Did it happen?

Riz - I asked my dealer a few days before my service if they would replace my coil packs and they told me no, that there was no recall from Audi (dont you just love them)

Hi guys,

Can somebody tell me more about this coil problem? And how do I tell if mine have been done?

Alledgedly, (never happened to me) if a coil pack has gone you will know - the car will run like a dog

Do a search on coilpacks as the behaviour is reported somewhere

I`ve had a coilpack go, theres a post on it.
But basically the car shakes and splutters as whichever coil goes that cylinder goes off.
