4wd power split/ tyre wear?

4wd power split/ tyre wear?
What sort of wear difference can I expect from the rs4 on a set of 4 new tyres (front/ rear)? Previous cars I've owned (2wd cars + TT (which I believe is a 95/5 split under normal driving?)) I've kept an eye on the different wear rates and swapped them over, replacing all 4 when worn out. Is this good practice? What is the power split on the rs4/s4 - 60/40? or is it variable?

I have mine rotated and rebalanced every 7,000 miles. My Toyos last about 15,000.

maybe the rumours aren't true about you driving like a girl phil [img]images/graemlins/burnout.gif[/img],i had my rs2 for 20,000 miles and never put a tyre on it although fronts wear faster due to steering.as for rs2 havn't had it long enough.

I'm with Phil, I do mine every 5000 to 6000 miles especially after a track day. I have just replaced my first set of Pilots at 25000 miles.
Standard RS4 (is it the only standard one left?)

rotate mine regularly but as I also drive like an old woman, manage to get 12k miles tops, my worst is 3900 miles out of some pirelli's. 12k out of michellins, the toyos last as good as the michellins IMHO

I wear my rears out quicker than my fronts.
Well that was with the old worn S4 suspension. Now running RS4 shocks n springs. Having said that, I got even wear right across the width of the tire, so I doubt the softer suspension/roll is to blame for the accerated wear over the fronts.
I've said in previous posts that it's always the rear end of my car that seems to get the most power as thats the end that steps out on wet junctions or corners.
It wan't just the cars arse end that was twiching the first time that happened [img]images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img] Not quite what I was used to coming from driving front wheel drive cars most of my driving life.

I can sympathise with that! I've just gone from a front drive Mini Cooper S to a rear drive, 1985 BMW 525e. Trouble is, with all that squishy suspension and soggy tyres etc, it slips and slides around all the time, so I rarely notice! Did have an interesting incident in a wet carpark when turning through a tight corner. Basically it wouldn't quite get round, so stand on the brakes, boot it one, gently let the brakes off and round it goes on the spot. Excellent stuff. Mind you, I can imagine it's a different story in a 380hp+ RS4, especially with rather expensive tyres!

The RS4 has Torsen canter differential which split the power mechanically in normal condition 50/50 but in case of less grip on front or rear axle can split up to 75% to rear or front axel.
